Check out what my son found!

My 6 year old, Wyatt, is a future "bugologist" He finds some pretty interesting things.. overly large house spiders and stink beetles are his favorite and he is pretty well versed in what he can pick and what to leave alone.. i.e. black widows, wasps, etc..

But he brought this in today..
I have never seen one this small! it is on his finger and can't be more than a half inch long

Aww! They are the coolest bugs! We hatched an egg sack full of mantids this spring - they were the size of mosquitoes when they were born.

Awesome bug you got there Wyatt!!! I've been seeing the lady bug larvae around here they are so UGLY hard to believe they can grow to be such cool looking bugs. Do you get lightening bugs where you live? They are lighting up the sky here. I don't like spiders unless it's a daddy long leg. Now those are cool! I've been finding grubs in my garden. Yuck! I hear they are good for fishing. I know my goldfish and my chickens like to eat them. hehe!

If you find anymore cool looking bugs be sure to share. Is mom going to let you keep the praying mantis?

Awww, that is so cute.

I hatched out an egg sack of mantis babies when I was young too. I waited and waited and after they hatched, I took them to school to show the class. They were not as impressed or enthralled as I was, LOL.

The mantisis we have here in FL are skinny, brown and look more like walking sticks than mantises. I miss the big green guys we had in TN.

Baby! I like to see them find a place and grow up. I, too, like to feed them. There's nothing as satisfying as watching a mantis eat a grasshopper!
