Friday Footnotes #10 - take your medicine

TAKE YOUR MEDICINE

The Wise Farmer (that's me ) had arranged for the vet to come to do annual care of all the critters.

That first year, the goat pen contained around 30 pygmy goats when all the new kids were added in.

The Smart Vet, the Courageous Helper and the Wise Farmer (that's me ) went into the pen. The equipment was brought in too, to give shots, do worming, and all other annual care which even included making the little billy goats to where they weren't billys any more.

Now came a game called "catch the goat." Some goats had to be cornered, most were lured by the grain, some of the kids and shy goats were picked up as they stood next to their mamas or buddies. The Wise Farmer knew all the goats well and so would keep track of who was already finished. As goats were finished, they tended to stay away, even from the grain bucket, so it was easy at first to know which ones to still catch.

Curious Georgie was named because she always wanted to know "Whatcha doing?" She was the first goat done. She was one of three tri-colored goats.

Callie did not trust strangers and so she was hard to catch. She was also a tri-color. She was one of the last ones to get done.

The Smart Vet or the Courageous Helper would say, "Caught her!"

The Wise Farmer (that's me ) would shake her head and have to say, "Georgie, you already had your turn."

Georgie didn't care. She volunteered for another turn. To her, even yucky tasting wormer medicine and long needled shots were great fun. She loved getting cuddles and was willing to take her medicine again and again, just so someone would pet her more.

She only got her one dose, even though she got caught a dozen or more times. In the end, Georgie made a stressful event for both goats and people into a humorous event. Her fun-loving behavior has now made this annual event into one that the Smart Vet and Courageous Helper look forward to each year.

Moral = Some things that the GREAT FARMER does to help us in life can be painful or be less than tasteful to us. He knows each of us well and knows what it will take to give us our needed medicine. For some us, we must be chased and cornered. Some of us will be lured. For some of us being with another who is trusted helps us get through these things. The Wise Farmer has learned that for even these undesired but helpful things; if these things are accepted with a joyful attitude, one can end up being healthier in the end and also end up with much more loving cuddles too.

My turn, please!

Horse poor - I am glad that it helped. I was soooo tired still from our long trip and didn't have time to really think about which story to use. This is the one the GREAT FARMER gave me...He knows!

Have you ever tried to explain to a critter? - "This is for your own good" The GREAT FARMER has to try to explain that to me often.

The GREAT FARMER will care for ALL your true needs - your script says it better (and shorter too)....."Stop telling God how big your storm is. Instead tell the storm how big your God is."....Amen to that!
