mini teasing t/b stallion

ok, so we've established that it IS ok (sorry to offend the diagreers) to keep minis w/ full sizers. but now my mini mare (28.5") escapes her area to wander amougst the big horses to the stallion's area. he is 15 or so hands and a t.b. cross. she is less than his knee caps in height. there's no way he could breed her right? she is very bossy i doubt she let any one do anything w/o her consent. but he displays his business at her and shes like whatever, u got food or something?

i would doubt he could breed her....if she ended up pregnant you can have some SERIOUS problems with the height difference. I would do anything possible to keep her from being "nosey"

btw....i keep our mini with our large horses. as long as the get along. certain ones at the barn can NOT stay with him.

Poor stallion, he's probably about to lose his mind trying to figure that one out

Despite the fact that he may not be able to breed her, he may become frustrated and lash out at her, or try to breed her anyway and get hurt himself or hurt her in the attempt.

And if he Did manage to somehow impregnate her , how would she ever carry and deliver that baby?

I'd say it was time to re-evaluate and improve your fencing. She needs to stay away from the big boys.

I completely agree for eveyone's safety improved fencing is much needed there have been stranger things that have happened with biggies and mini's together be it the biggies were stallions or the minis were stallions..anythings possible

Very well said. I agree. Esp with the fencing issue. If you are going to have stallions and mares among the same vincinity then you need to make sure you have the proper facilities to hold them in.

BTW - My mini gelding is a great companion to my other gelding. No issues.

This is a chance I would not be willing to take. I would never assume he wouldnt breed her just because shes small. A stallion this much bigger even trying to breed her could cause a lot of damage.

I am not a fan of big horses in with miniatures.

If she is teasing him that much, he might not be able to control himself and try to breed her. I imagine he would hurt her really badly if it came to that.

Time to fix the fence between her area and the stallion's area. Actually, check all her fences just in case.

I'm not looking at this as a mini can or cannot be with big horses, but as a containment issue. Equines should be where you put them, not escaping and wandering around.

I have my bigs and Liddles together with ZERO issues. BUT ,YOU have an issue. Please get her fenced in so she cannot get out. That is a terrible situation waiting to happen.

I have a mini that runs with my big horse and (knock on wood) we have never had a problem.

BUT, said mini is 38" and is a little hussy. She used to tease the ever living crap out of my paint stud. One day he took down a gate to get her. Covered her several times. Thankfully he didn't cause any internal damage to her and she also recieved a shot to make her abort.

In other words, it can happen, they will figure out how. I"ve seen big mares stand in a hole and down hill to a smaller stud to be covered.

Like others have said, he could end up causing her all sorts of problems out of frustration and likewise, if she decided to kick while he was in the process of trying to mount her she would nail him in the... well, in other words, she might end up gelding him for you.

For their paticular safety, she needs to be contained better.

Yes, he CAN breed her and will bred her, and it can seriously damage her. She needs to be contained better to avoid a dead mare carrying a foal that is far too big for her. Unlike "normal" sized horses, mini foals do not grow in proportion to the mare carrying them (ie a pony bred to draft would be fine), this is why when breeding a mini mare, breeders look for stallions that are about an inch or so smaller than the mare to play it safe.

My mares have gotten out once (actually, all my horses but my stallion were let loose by some idiot that came down and unlatched all the gates!!) and the first place they went was to my nearly 16 hand paint stallion!
