Lets hear everyones fall training plans

I love fall its my favorite season!! And I love it for training horses. I start most of mine in the fall, then let them sit all winter and when spring comes life is so great. Would love to hear everyones plans! Heres our plans for fall training

Moonlight Bay 5 year old mare---She is going to start being trained to drive.

Jet aka Magical Noice Long 2 year old pony gelding--We are going to train jet for obstacle this fall and start training him to ride. No weight on his back just letting him get used to a bridle and saddle

Gossip Girl and Vick (weanlings) ---will start training them to stand for halter for next year and work on leading skills (I will be making a video of this for a friend)

Tease starting training for obstacle for next year

I plan on training Buttercup (5 month old) to park out and get ready for show. I may also let her do a few short jumps if she likes it but nothing big. I am afraid she may be a little lazy to jump though. But I will have to find her something to learn since she is already bored with what I am doing now.

I am planning on training Paco how to drive (2 y/o in the spring) I am not making him pull anything just driving around and getting used to a bit.

I am planning on working them in this during the fall and winter. So, this will hopefully be enough time to get all of my plans done. Seems as though I have been so busy lately.

sky I agree the shorter days make it hard.

minilover just an fyi that a weanling is really too young to jump anything. They cant show in jumping until they are 3 so I would hold off on that.

Im going to be making a video for a friend on how to train a horse to set themselves up for halter. Ill post it here too if anyone wants to see it.

Moonlight started line driving this week and is doing great!! Even better then I had hoped. woohooooo

We dont show in any jumping classes at shows. These are really short jump that I would be using. Paco was a fireball last winter and this helped him burn some energy and he loved it. If she doesnt like to jump it wont bother me, I am not going to make her do it but, if she likes it I'm just going to let her do the little jumps (6-8").

It's been so hot here this summer that I haven't been riding much. So this fall I'm going to be working with my paint gelding in basic dressage; bending, transitions and accepting the bit. Layla, our yearling warmblood, will be worked with in hand to get ready for inspections. After that I'm just going to pleasure ride all winter. I can't wait!

Since I'll be able to breathe again outside as it's soooo steamy here in Florida from all the rain and then heat added on top, once that clears my 8 year old gelding will be driving again. He's had about a year off and was spoiled rotten at a friends house-literally. He thinks he can push us around and he's oh so fat. He'll be relearning his ground manners-in progress now, and once he loses some blubber will be driving again. We also took a year off from showing at a local fun show (end of year award is $500 gift card or at least was) so will be going back to that.
I also have a 45" pony (still growing). We will be working on developing trust and eventually ground driving.
The good thing with me is that I can work all winter.

I'm excited to be back in the saddle after my riding accident and plan on spending the fall finishing my 4 yr old Swedish Warmblood Annika!!!!! I'm tickled to death to be back on her!!!
Annika will continue working lightly out over the winter and then start basic training level dressage in the spring if all goes well.
And me I will after 30+ years of riding FINALLY be in my very first show ever training level/1st level dressage!!!

My daughter, Carson (who is 7yrs old) has been taking lessons for the past 2 years on a wonderful lesson horse will start taking lessons on her beloved mare Roo!!! She is beyond excited!!
I'm so excited about the future I could pinch myself!!
Happy training to my fellow HT family!!

kay. I also love fall, just
love the cooler days.
It's been so hot here not much you can do with the ponies,
but try and keep them cool.
Hopefully I will be working more on ground driving Jack
And getting him ready for harness this spring.

I agree...fall is my favorite season, cooler days and it just makes it perfect for training! And our farm is the prettiest in fall!

Tuck (2 year old Quarter Horse gelding) - I am planning on doing ground work and desensatizing him to alot of random stuff that he might see on a trail ride or something. He needs alot more ground manners. I might lunge him too, to get him some excersize..

Chief (9 year old Paint gelding) - Hasn't been riden in about 2-3 months so we need to start working with him. Just getting him used to be in the arena with bridle and saddle on and just walking...he has a grass belly so i need to work that off..hehe!

I hope everyone enjoys that last few bits of summer and gets ready for the coolness of fall. The crisp air...but then again, that air makes my horses friskier. haha!

I plan on concentrating on my 2 main halter horses this winter. I want to try to keep them in show condition. I have one mare that I want to introduce to halter obstacle next year, so that will be taking alot of time.

I love Fall here in Florida! Just not the time change! It gets dark so early when the time changes!

My mare is underway with barrel training. She has been hauled to a few races just to take in the scenery. My gelding will continue to run at all the local barrel races during the winter.

Its funny with him...if he trains well, he blows the real race. If he trains crappy the week of the race, he runs great!

FUNNY, Scrapchick! I was thinking the same thing!

As for me, RIDING, RIDING, and more RIDING.

All mine just need to be ridden. Period.

This fall, my gelding and I are working on transitions w/c and t/c and are also building up his endurance on the trail for longer rides. My goal is to do an all-day ride with no ouchie feet! (his not mine )

I might also add that I'm looking forward to having some snow on the ground so I can work on my bareback skills!

Jost got a new mini and pony harness...there's nothing like the smeill of new leather. My mini starts driving again tomorrow after having not driven for a year. My friend is going to drive him first as she's not afraid to be the crash dummy (I have a hat that says that on it). She worries that I'll get hurt and damage or lose my transplanted kidney and pancreas. So, we'll see how it goes.
With my pony, I need to get a bit and have him start getting used to that as the ttust and boinding we've been working on has grown by leaps and bounds..

All of my horses are outside right now, except for some weanlings and yearlings that are in the barn getting fed up real good this winter, and a gelding that is coming home from Arkansas this weekend who i am getting a early start on for next show season .

Very temped to start one of my yearling colts ground driving...ive never had a yearling so mentally and physically mature as this colt. Just ground driving..nothing special or atleast get him in the bitting rig.

All mine but two are pretty much on vacation now that Nationals is over.

I do have one out with a trainer who is learning to drive, Wall Street Rock "E" Livingston, aka Baylee. I so can't wait to see him in harness!!

I have one here at home I'm working lightly, Wall Street Illusion Jazz Singer, aka Jazz Singer. He just needs to be handled and learn that people are okay. He is coming along pretty nicely. I plan on using him on a few of my shetland/miniature mares come spring.

Lets see.......
1. I want to get my weanling to load in the trailer with out a fuss.

2. I want to get my brood mare to trot for 5 minutes at a time under saddle without haviving a heart attack.

3. I want a great canter in both directions out of my grey mare. (I could never get the right lead until my new farrier came out 3 weeks ago).

4. I pray that my 27 yr old and my crippled (in a pasture accident) 3 yr old make it another day.

WAIT... This is Minis
