Question Dwarf babies

I have found 2 darling little girls that are for sale and I don't know if I should buy them. Can anyone tell me about the dwarf mini's? I know they can have a difficult time, so I am asking for your advice.
Here's some info on them......They are 5 hh's, weigh 40 pounds and were born Feb 2008.
They are also a good ways from me so I will have transportation cost. What is a good price for them ? Thanks for your time.

I would recommend you take your question over to the Lil Beginnings site.
They have more info on the dwarf minis.
It can be heartbreaking. The issues you see on the outside are secondary to the issues they suffer internally.
I would think long on this especially if you have children.
Now it varies as far as how bad the deformaties please check over there for folks who have been there and done that.

Not to steal the thread or change the topic, but WHY do they breed them (or any animal for that sake) when there are so many medical/health issues.
People breed for anything these days.

I don't think the mini breeders breed for dwarfism, it is just a risk that is inherent with breeding minis.

See if you can get photos of them and perhaps give us a little more history.
I have a dwarf that was born here but I have had over 200 minis in the last 14 years of breeding.
He is the sweetest and looks like a buffalo. he is healthy and strong, yes health issuse , not good legs and feet, but thankfully he has not been sick at all.
They should be real cheap in price.
If it were me and I were in the position I would not hesitate in getting them

Thumbalina is 17 inches and 20 lbs and is touring the US showing herself off.
She is cute too

They can have a lot of problems and I would stay away from them. It will be more expensive to care for them and generally they don't live past 5 years depending on how badly deformed they are. People don't breed for them but they do crop up on occasion. This is from downsizing from the larger horse. If you have a dwarf then the parents shouldn't be bred together again if you are a reputable breeder.

I did have 2 dwarf minis but I only have one now. I sold one of them so that I could have more room for my other minis. My dwarf is 5 years old and he is not too badly deformed. Before I buy them I would look for monkey jaw (bottom teeth stick out farther than top), bull head, knotty knees, hooves can grow inward or outward, potbellied. From what I have learned they need their feet trimmed more often. But, they are so sweet. I wouldnt have give my other one up for nothing if I didnt have to keep her from the other minis but, she was my only mare. I had one gelding and 2 studs. I got them both cut. Well, one was her best buddy the other still thought he was a stud. So had to get rid of her. But, she went to a great home. So, now where are the pictures? You know we gotta have pictures.

Friends transported three mini colts in the back of their van. Put down plywood with lots of plastic taped up the sides, a piece of carpeting and lots of bedding and they were fine.

Just make sure you cover up the ENTIRE interior of your car. I transported two calves from a petting zoo that my 4-H'ers did and one had serious calf diarrhea. There was maybe a one-inch opening in the tarp that was protecting the SUV's interiors, and one of the calves found it. There happened to be a speaker under there, too. Not the easiest thing to clean calf poop out of. You shouldn't have that problem with a pony but just something to consider before hauling livestock in a vehicle intended for humans...
