Question Mini Stud?

We are looking at getting a mini foal, for my 11 y/o daughter to train. I was just wondering if we could keep it a stud, if we don't keep it around mares. Or should we geld it. I just want a horse that's easy for my daughter to train though.... thanks

I would geld it if you are not planning on breeding.

Ditto, if you want ease of training, a gelding id the way to go. Much more predictable that way too.

PLEASE do buy a gelding or geld the foal. Geldings by far make the best kids horses. Miniatures are small but stallions still act like stallions and can be too much for a child to handle. Also if your child ever decides to show in 4h or rated shows they cannot show an intact stallion.

Definately geld. Too many inferior stallions these days. And they are unpredictable. If he got loose , he could cause a lot of problems.

I have seen a miniature stallion take down a 15 hand gelding. A stallion is a stallion regardless of size. I agree with everyone else, gelding is the way to go.

Geld for sure Minis may be small, but they don't know it - and a stallion is a stallion regardless of size. I've seen 250lb stallions pull over grown men - or reach up and paw people in the face/chest. Yep, geldings are good for the kids.

Geld. They may be little guys, but they have the heart of a warrior!

I agree!!!!!!

I sold a colt last spring. I told them to cut him. Did they? NO So I get a call last December asking me to buy him back. An intact male is NOT for kids.

If you are not going to breed, and you are not planning to put him in with the mares as a stud. at least he could be put with them afterwards.

My 30" stud recently jumped a 4 foot fence when my mare was in heat....

Geld him. It's just all around safer and healthier for all involved.
