Help!?

I have a Pony that i think is around 38" . I was wondering how much weight can they really handle i weigh around 115 or less. Could he handle that or no? Please help!

If i do weigh to much how could i train him for kid's riding him, since he loves children so much.

In my opinion if he is 38 inches he is not a pony but perhaps a mini.
your weight is too much for him, just find a confident younger rider, about 60 -70 lbs, and after he is accustomed to a salddle than keep him on a lead line with the child. Treat and train just like a big horse but smallerl

I have quite a few registered American Shetland Ponies that measure 38 and some even under

I do think 115 lbs is too much especially when you add in weight for the saddle. A 115lb adult really needs the larger size pony around 44-46"

Many ponies are broke to ride by first getting them used to the bit and saddle by line driving them on long lines. Then you can add weight to the saddle. You could always get on for just a few minutes to make sure there is no buck etc.

At 38 inches he is at the limit for a AMHR registered Mini- anything taller & he goes under Shetland or Show Pony depending on his breeding. Certainly not for anyone to ride over 60-70 lbs- maybe teach him to drive??

I heard a good rule of thumb is the horse can carry NO MORE THAN 1/4 their body weight. It seems to fit pretty decently, as a 200lb mini can handle 50 lbs, and a 1000 lb horse can carry 250 lbs (that's counting saddle and all).

ive heard they can handle a third of their weight.we have a mini that is my 8 yr old girls pony.when he acts like a bratty pony my 12 yr old son gets on him and makes him behave.hes 120 lbs.but thats only to correct behavior.he dont take him on a 2 hr trail ride or nothing.after about 15 minutes hes more than ready for my daughter to ride him again and behave hisself.
