Registering a miniature

Are there any registries that one could hardship a miniature into? I know if you have an Appaloosa pony between I think 46-56 you can hardship it in to the POA club, if you have a solid non-gaited, between I think 46 and up to 58 inches you can hardship it into the NQPA. But are their any clubs you can hardship smaller animals into. We have a friend that has a few minis, but the mother is not registered, so the baby that they get each year in not registerable (I think the sire is, but not sure). I didn't know if there was any clubs out there that they could register with that could give them an area to show the little ones.

Also, my nephews little pony is 44 inches, built pretty nice, moves good, he has won some pony halter classes at open shows against Quarter ponies, but he isn't registered as anything and he is too short to be a Quarter Pony. He is darling, rides and drives, puts up with all the costumes, lovely palomino color. He is a little skittish of adults and men in particular, we think there was possibly some issues somewhere back in his past.

You might try world class miniatures for the little horses as for the 44 inch pony I have no idea who would register him with out at least some idea as to who is mother and father .

Hardshipping is still done by AMHA but its pretty pricey. Once you hardship AMHA you can hardship AMHR. Stallions are the most costly and geldings are the least costly. You do have to pay an AMHA judge to come see the horse and measure it and make sure it has no dwarf characteristics.

I wouldnt recommend World Class. Lately a lot of people are complaining that they sent their money in a year ago and still do not have papers.

If the pony is pinto you can maybe register PTHA but they cannot have any appy. Pinto shows are a lot of fun.

Thank you for the information. Both of the ones they have for sale right now are still studs, one is a two year old, the other is three (I think). One is all white like his dam, the other chestnut like the father. Nothing that would make me think pinto markings on either of them. Since people say there is no such thing as a white horse I'm not sure what the one would actually be, since he was born white. And they have one baby a year out of this pair and none have ever had pinto markings, and if it was a maximum sabino I would think at least one of the others would have white on it (besides just leg and face markings). Same if it was actually a few spot leopard, you would think some of the others would have had spots or characteristics at least.

Kaykay, how do you get such nice photos of your minis. I have tried a few times to take pictures of these guys for her, and everytime they come out funny looking. I have tried to get "down to their level" and they still don't come out. But we have never taken them out of their pens and made them look all spiffy either.

Hi there enchanting

The white horse is probably a maximum overo or a max sabino. Look inside his ears for small dots of color. Usually a max overo will have spots inside the ears..

The Chestnut is almost definitely a minimal expression tobiano. See the 4 white socks with jagged edges?? My bet is if you color test him he will come back positive for Tobiano. If you look at my stallion Black on my website he is a minimal expression Tobiano with 4 white socks. Im pretty sure though to register with Pinto he has to have body white.

I think the cost to hardship a stallion amha is like 650.00. They really need to hardship the mare and then her foals could be hardshipped at 1/2 price. That would solve their whole problem as then they wouldnt have foals they cant register.

You definitely have to get down to ground level to get a good picture of a miniature or pony. I get all the way down to the ground (I dont just crouch down) You always want to point the camera tword the hip for a good body shot. Also I do use professional photographers when I can as I think it makes a huge difference in the pictures. I think when taking them on your own you have to take about 50 pictures to get 2 good ones. Takes a lot of patientce!

Thank you for the photo ideas. I contacted the AMHA yesterday and they responded back with the information for registering each. For a stud it is $1200, for a mare it is $600, and for a gelding right now is $500, but in Jan it drops to $200 and no DNA required on the gelding. It did state that the animal had to be exceptional to qualify for hardshipping, and I don't think these two little guys would qualify as exceptional. I was thinking about if they hardshipped the mare then they could register the offspring without problem.

But gelding them would make them so much easier to sell. I've had to talk people out of them that wanted them for the first horse for a young child to mess with.
