Pintaloosa

this is a 18 month old pintaloosa stud I am looking to buy..Any comments on him?He is registered with the pintaloosa assn., his dad was a leopard mini and his mom was a reg. solid black mini. The breeder is asking 200$.

He has a mild case of stifle lock, and she told me that the mini apps carrier that sometimes..He devolped it when he was 4 months old.

So like I said...any comments?I would eventually attempt to show him to see how he does...

Umm... your looking to breed him?

I think he would make an adorable gelding. But a yucky stud. That neck just JUMPS out at me.

Any horse can have stifle lock and it can be inherited, it can also be a trimming issue with the feet. Unless you can know for sure just what the problem is I'd not breed him. There are plenty of nice Minis out there w/o that issue, why pay for a stallion with it? If you want to geld him I think he'd make a nice horse.

I agree something is really off with that neck, he looks horribly ewe necked also a fault. But then in looking at the photos again he's not stood up even close to correct. It's hard to tell with him on the grass but his hooves look stacked...really high angles. Can you get better photos?

You easily see that he has stifle lock due to his conformation of the hind legs. Very weak croup (gooserumped) and ewe necked. Looks a little clubbed on his back leg but its a very unflattering picture. For sure he should be gelded. But even as a gelding he will not be very competitive. At least not in my area as we have some kick butt geldings showing.

I guess it depends on what your plans are??? Is he registered miniature?

There is a surgery to cut the tendons on the back legs to stop them from locking but its not recommended to do in minis until they are 3.

I have a miniature pintaloosa gelding. He also has the same conformational faults...cow hocks, goose rump, and pintaloosa...not really an "accepted" color. I bought him as a pet, and gelded him immediately. This colt is adorable, no doubt about that, but not a specimen for breeding or showing. With that locking stifle issue and goofy conformation I'd pass on breeding him. Like KayKay said, we have some lovely show geldings around here too. He wouldn't be competitive. Get him, geld him and keep him as a pet.

Definitely petting zoo material. Please geld him if you buy him. Much nicer minis are going for $50. at the auctions.

The first thing I noticed about this cutie is the striking leopard appaloosa colouration with those blue eyes.

Cute factor, yes. Breeding criteria? No.

If he was plainly coloured with brown eyes, would he be stud material? You've mentioned the hocks locking up being hereditary. That ewe neck and weak loin should also make one pause in considering him for a stallion. If these are serious breeders who's selling him, they should have already gelded him.

that being said, he's very cute and if you want to play around with him and he's worth $200 to you, then go for it.

If you are seriously looking for a stud prospect, pass on this one.
