Thank you!!! She's for sure one of a kind! I was given her so I could learn Saddleseat, she was given to the people that gave her to me. Essay came from the Class A circut and did well but after she retired they found for some reason (I can't recall) that she was not breedable and so she was given to the Blacksmith. She proved to be to much for his daughter to handle and we knew the Blacksmith through a Smith my husband apprenticed under. I happend to be at a show one weekend and they said they had the perfect mare for me. I looked at her, rode her and brought her home....Levi has since taken her over.
She can break level barefoot, has wonderfull upright ,forward movement and does what she was trained to do well. BUT, put the eggbutt in her mouth, the western saddle on and toss Levi in it and clearly she is far happier than in any flat saddle.
Iam convinced she saved his life just after a trail ride even. We had gone out on a 15 mile ride that Essay and Levi led most of the way...just trotting and looking it was funny they could have been alone for all the attention they paid us and were just happy. Anyway, we got back and another rider/his horse got into an argument. She got mad when she couldn't do what she wanted and just started to double barrel anything she could. When the horses got out of her way she backed into Essay bucking the whole time and even nailed her square twice. Nobody was close, my husband was at the trailer, Levi/Essay were on the way to the trailer and I was trying to dismount on the other side of the parkinglot. We yelled at Levi to get out of there thinking he'd ride out of the way but he jumped off and ran out of the way. Essay NEVER MOVED!!! She stood there and took the abuse until Andy got up there and pulled her out of the way. Had she paniced or started to fight back Levi could have been hurt bad or killed. That mare is worth her weight in gold and will be here until she crosses the rainbow bridge.
