Corazon Valiente TKS (image heavy)

Here is a photo of my Peruvian Paso, Corazon Valiente (valient heart), a three yr old red/copper chestnut.

He's training in bosal and this photo shows him longeing in traditional tack.

A better view of the traditional tack

This photo shows a closer view of the bosal used in training. He'll graduate to a finer bosal as he progresses, then eventually into a bit.

Thank you very much everyone! I'm over the moon about this guy the first gelding I've owned, always had mares before. Actually I was in tears after my first ride on a Peruvian. An accident 11 years ago the doctors said I'd never ride again, which proved to be true unfortunately. I was absolutely devastated but resigned myself to living without one of my greatest pleasures. A little over a year ago I come across an article on Peruvian horses and was lucky enough to find a breeder locally. They let me ride their mare and the rest is history. Corazon was not originally for sale but he took to me instantly and they decided to let him go.

Arabs used to, and still do, make my heart beat faster but these Peruvians have everthing I look for in a horse. A willingness to please, good natures and brio .. there's plenty of fire under that calm exterior when you need it.

I appreciate everyone's comments about his colour. The funny thing is I really wanted a palomino. This was going to most likely be my last horse so I wanted a young horse that I could work with and as both of us become more fit then we could go on longer rides. I've always had "brown" horses so decided I would look around for a palomino mare, always had mares so why change now?

Funny how karma works isn't it. I've got another "brown" horse, it's a boy and the only thing on the wish list is the fact he's young. I wouldn't trade him for all the snowflakes in the world. Karma decided we redheads had to stick together.

I love grooming a horse, you fall into a rhythm and time seems to evaporate. The worries of a year can pass away in a minute's worth of brushing. Corazon enjoys his grooming and bends, leans or nudges so the the favourite spots get the most attention. He's the first horse I've ever groomed that loved to have the mane brushed this much. He lowers his head, angles his neck towards me so I can reach easily. I get some teasing from his breeder who says I am going to "polish" the horse down to nothing.

Thank you so much!

Ah yes .. the tack. I love it too but what a learning curve it is. The woolen pad goes on, which is heavy enough when it's dry. Then the saddle skirt, the saddle with the tail rigging attached, then cinch it up and attach the stirrups.

So far I'm getting B+ and A's for tacking.

Again, thank you! It's difficult to know I will have to wait for a while longer before riding him but it's much more important that he's trained properly and not rushed. That's what ruins a lot of Peruvians and they don't gait as well as they could. He'd have been much further along but the wet conditions we've had and lack of time because of renovations we've been doing to the house, have lengthened his training time. The great news is, once he's learned something he doesn't forget so we can keep moving forward instead of rehashing old material.

Beautiful boy...

Never seen that kind of tack before, definetly interesting!

I'm just scared that with those pieces being so long and lose he would possibly get a leg hung up in it

Oh my goodness -- he is stunning. Love his colour.
Love that traditional tack. It is quite unique.
When you graduate to riding him, I bet you will turn heads where ever you go!!

Thank you for your compliments!

It's impossible for Corazon to get a leg caught in the retrancas (long pieces) because they sit above the top of the hock. Because of the way these horses move they don't interfere with movement. The retrancas would rise with the hock if they were to try and lift the leg vertically.

They do tend to be showstoppers out in public. People are so used to seeing a trotting horse that gaiting horses tend to draw attention. The Peruvian's termino (swimming motion with the front legs) will have some asking if the horse has some deformity. LOL

I'm used to seeing the tack now and can't wait to outfit him with mine. He's using the breeders right now because it's well worn and more supple. Mine is new and imported from Peru by a breeder in Alberta.

Thank you again, I do appreciate everyone's comments.
