Meet our newbie Hopper! *NEW PICS PG 3*

Hopper came to us today. Vet will need to do an overhaul and dental, the farrier needs to do the pedicure which has been neglected for a good long time. We assume he may be in his late 20's and was possibly a show horse in his younger years. We hope we got him in time.

Aww poor baby! He looks terrible, but happy.

I can definitely tell that in his younger years he was probably a very handsome boy. He has the makings for a being a cutie with some groceries.

Good luck with him. I can't wait to see his progression!

For some reason I can imagine him in a show ring (many moons ago). His muscles in the rear are very obvious even in his poor condition.

He sure does have that Quarter horse butt! And a gorgeous mane and tail...hmm.

I wish that we could know what happened to some horses, I'd love to hear the stories.

Sometimes I want to know but most of the time I'd rather not know the whole story. I'd be in prison ...

He looks like he was a grand ole man back in his day! Even though he is emaciated he still has a certain "bloom" to him....or maybe presence would be a better word....

And he certainly looks happy to have all that grass! Beautiful place you have!

It never ceases to amaze me what people do to animals . . . . . . .
Hoping that he will be looking fat & sassy in the near future. Poor boy. He does have that "look" about him, even in his condition. I bet he was a champion. Too bad he can't talk and tell his history.

Oh wow this is taking me down memory lane! Years ago we picked up a chestnut gelding in very similar condition in his early 30's. He had no teeth, but enjoyed his mush very much. We had to let him fly away to heaven in January of '05, but the fact that he got as many years in as he did was amazing. That boy was full of character. Ironically enough his name was Elmer, and shortly after we got him the Elmer figurines came out or at least to my attention... he was a dead ringer.

Our boy.

I cant wait to see Hopper in a few months! He looks like he has plenty of life left in him!

aBreeze, they sure look somewhat alike . Hopper still has plenty of go, which simply amazes me. He staggered a bit coming off the trailer but recouped fairly quickly.

I can't wait to see what all the Vet says once she comes out. Probably one of them: "You do realize he is an old man "

I just can't help it. Hopper is cute. I'm gonna have to do some research and see if I can't find some "Hopper" names within AQHA. If we can get him up to speed then I believe he will make a kids horse. he strikes me as been there.. done that. When we picked him up we couldn't open the trailer doors fast enough for him .

I have to admit, I never heard a horse squeek while chewing. I'm assuming that he may not have many teeth left. When I made Hopper's "soupy dinner" this evening he just about knocked the bucket out of my hand. I believe he is very hungry because of tooth issues. The place where he came from had plenty of good grass pasture. So it has to be medical.

Wow... how can someone watch and let a horse go like that?
That poor boy.
I'm guessing he was the only in that sort of shape from the people you got him from?
Did they seems like knowledable horse people?
Ugh, that is just so frustrating to see....

Good on you for taking him home and giving him another chance at life, and to enjoy it!

I do have the urge to hurt people that allow their horses to get into this condition.. How one can continue to eat or sleep at night when the horse is slowly starving to death in front of them is something I will never understand..

Good for you guys - he still has a spark in that eye.. prayers that you will be able to bring him back to the wonderful animal he must have been at one time..

Thank YOU and God for getting Hopper to a place where he has a chance. I shudder to think how hungry he has been...but as you say there was grass...maybe he just couldn't eat properly.
I have never preferred a chestnut color but that third picture...WOW...I can see in my minds eye that he is regal in full form!! Can't wait to see how he turns out.
God Bless
