Introducing DY Cooke N Quixote - aka "Jesse" - out new stud prospect!

After a 1800 mile trip in three days - first to drop off Smokey with ferronsgranny in Mississippi - then we were off to Texas, to DY's, to pick up our new stud prospect, Jesse..

First, Pat and I wish to thank Kelly and Leona for having him ready on such short notice.. we were supposed to go to AZ this week and pick Jesse up next weekend - but because of Gustav, my leave for this week has been cancelled.. so we had to pick him up a week early..

Second, if you want to meet some incredible horses, go to DY's - we were trying to figure out how to fit the rest of the foals, a couple of mare's, and one gelding into our little trailer.. Stunning stock...

We left there at 0800am/est on Sunday, and pulled in here at 1130 Sunday (last) night.. Jesse loaded very well in our high sitting trailer, was a wonderful rider on that whole trip, and is starting to settle in here already... He is out in a pen where he can see all the other horses for now.. and will be spending some time with a couple of bred mares this winter to allow them to further his education..

Here he is - our new boy.. and we love him already... he loves the mineral block

I know she had some awesome looking fillies this year and maybe sometime in the next year or two I will have one of her babies. I bet Leo is a hunk in person too.

He is huge.. and what a face and hip on him...

I so wish we had been able to stay and visit longer.. their place, their horses, and Leo are awesome.. The other stud colt they have is going to be a phenomal horse to do reining or cutting with, the roan and the big light buckskin would make great ropers or barrel prospects, and the dark buckskin filly would be incredible for anything... All I can say is wonderful horses.. and the trip to Texas is well worth it..

What a prospect for the future, his is awesome! Looks like he faired the trip well. I know you are excited about him and will be an excellent addition to your breeding program!

So since I am not a color guru.....what is official color? Dunalino?

Buckskin.. he has the leg barring, but no dorsal or other dun factor.. pretty cool huh..

I am going to have him HERDA and color tested this winter.. I will post that information so we can all guess what he might produce bred to what..

I like him already - nice eye, very smart mind... he is going to be fun to play with and watch grow up.. He should be 15.1 - and solid...

Lots of counter shading then....and that tail frosting. Gonna be a buckskin of unique color for sure...should add some beautiful color to some already great confirmation in your stock.

We sure hope so.. It will be interesting to see what his color DNA shows.. Leo is a perlino.. and Jesse's dam is a bay. His genetics will allow us to figure out for color purposes who to bred him to.. build wise I think he will cross well on anything.. Leo, his sire, is awesome and rides around beautifully - he has a lot of money earners on both sides.. We have some big plans for this boy.. Pray that he stays healthy and sound so they can come to fruition..

Glad to see you all arrived home safe and sound, he looks like he made it just fine!

Now you know I would have been more than happy to load any of the other foals in your trailer and some days, I'd happily send you some of the mares. The gelding? Nope, he stays here! But next time you come, stay longer and you can at least ride him.

It was a zoo while you were here, it's usually not quite so crazy. We counted them all up, besides you and Pat, there were 23 people here. Before we knew that Gbar's vacation was cancelled, we had already planned to have our family down for the holiday weekend, so we had our four children, their spouses and children, my husband's parents, siblings, their children and spouses.
