AlbertaGirl: it's just the way he was born. You can only see it from the front, not from the side. SCA is the Society of Creative Anachronism, a medieval group. We have equestrian games that I'd like to train him for.
Spyder: Say what? Isn't that seen from the side where the knee looks backward? He's strait from the side. You mean he isn't going to make a good riding horse?

What a good looking boy! I too would be concerned with his knee. You may want to consult with your vet to see if he can actually handle being ridden. Personally with something like that, I wouldnt get on. But I am a heavy girl so I think about that type of stuff a lot.
Spyder is correct in that this type of defect is called a Bench Knee. |

ThorAb,
Yeah I just looked it up. Bench knee and it's severe. I'm heavy too, so now this concerns me. Well thanks for pointing it out AlbertaGirl. And thanks for putting a name to it, Spyder. Before I totally ruined him, it's best to find out. It's just hard, having raised him and sending him for training and finally finding a horse I feel good and safe on, to find this out when I should have seen it right away. This is so disappointing.

Id have the vet take a look at it to see if he might be ok for some light riding like trails or something. But for now I wouldnt get on him myself until I knew whether or not it would be ok. Ive never personally dealt with a horse that had it. I did have a little buckskin filly that messed up her knee at 2 months old, she is now 4 years old. I gave her to a friend, she was actually broke to ride and is used for a children's mount. Her knee looks kinda like that but also has a slight curve. Apparently their vet didnt see a problem with little kids being on her...
If only I could find the pictures I had of her when she was little to show her legs.... drat. |

AlbertaGirl, Hey it's better to find out, right? All the trainer said was he had no buck in him, that he was going to make a great family horse with a few more miles on him, and that he was a nice horse. That he was going to be one of those horses you could put anyone up on. I never met the trainer, I got this assessment second hand from my neighbour who trailered Scotty and her horse to the trainer for a month.
Thanks for the nice compliments on his colour, looks and eyes. My hubby picked him out because of his colour ![]()
