Meet "Splash" - 4 weeks later update (pic. heavy)

Just wanted to show a few before and after pictures of Splash. I can't believe what a difference 4 weeks of love & attention has done for this little guy. He's an 11 month old grade stud (to be gelded next week ). He was an auction find, mostly to keep another weanling company, but I bought him from the friend who originally bought him. He's from someone's uncle's unregistered QH stud and from the looks of the mares he was in with at the auction he "might" have some arab or paint somewhere. Anyway -- here he is when he was bought

and now to the "after" pictures - 4 weeks later. He comes from being completely unhandled at 10 months old to halter broke, I can brush him all over and can consistently pick-up and clean his front hooves and am working on the hind (he's a little reluctant to stand still when I lift his hind feet -- he hops all over the place - silly horse!)

A picture of his cute little bootie -- he's a little cow hocked but has never been trimmed. We are working on lifting his hind feet and he "might" be ready when the farrier comes out on the 8th of August.

Here's a picture of the high whites on his hind legs -- he has a white spot on his belly and a few white hairs (about 20) on his neck, so I am thinking there's a bit of paint somewhere in the mix.

He's my first weanling/yearling and I don't have much experience with really young horses, so I am reading & trying to learn all I can. I know it is also hard to tell conformation wise on one so young, but do you see anything obvious that I should be aware of. Keep in mind that the poor little lad has never been handled or had his feet trimmed, and I do know that I would like to see his front feet a little more "less upright" but that will be taken care of as soon as I can consistantly lift his feet . . . . . .. . . . .

Sorry for the sideways pictures again -- I am not sure what I am doing wrong in photobucket -- I try to turn the pictures, they look turned and then when I move them to here, they are sideways

surprising what a few groceries and just some TLC can do. Definitely some paint in there somewhere. I do believe that he would be called a sabino. Even in the arab world, a horse with stockings a certain height plus a belly spot is marked as a sabino (not a welcomed sight for arabs). I am not an expert be any means but I have been told this by arab owners.

Nice looking fellow though.

BarnBum -- you are right, his tail is thick and it has 3 colours in it to boot -- the blonde around the edges, the darker red in the middle and under the darker red there's some black. And you should see his mane/forelock as well -- thick and unruly !!! He's quite the little character as well -- not afraid of anything (yet).

You've done a good job working with him.
I wonder thought about maybe there being some Clyde there...just something about the way he is built.

cowgirlspurs -- he's definitely a heinz 57 mixture, or a mutt of the horseworld. Who knows what the "uncles unregistered QH stud" could have been and the 2 mares in the holding pen with him were unregistered as well, a bit on the small side. One was a paint, but I don't think that was his mom as he was sold in the ring with the other mare. Oh well, it will be interesting to see what happens as he grows . . . . .
I hope there's no Clyde there - - I was hoping that he would be a nice "little" horse maybe around 14.3 - 15.1 range. Oh well
PaintedWonders -- I like his colouring too -- he's turning out to be a nice red shade. I never would have known about the white spot on his belly, but when he was being taught to lead, he reared up and there's the white spot, right by his sheath. Not somewhere I would have put my head down there to have a look giving the 10 month old, unhandled history .
He's got cute little ears as well.

Very nice looking colt...when I seen the markings on the legs I too thought Clydesdale...

There goes my hopes for a nice small horse . If he was part Clyde, wouldn't he have more hair on his little legs though?? Since I really don't know what he is . . . . . any guesses are much appreciated.
