Meet Perry and Mich - horse show people, please comment!

Here I am with my little guy. For scale, I am 5'10", and he is a year and a half. He's from a PMU, if you add up all his fractions he comes out at 1/2 QH, 3/8 draft and 1/8 paint. Yes, he is FILTHY...we're working on it...too cold already for a bath!

Okay all, I've had a few people look at Perry this week and they all commented that he is nice looking.

All you halter people...is he worth showing in halter? What breed? He could qualify as a breeding stock Quarter Horse with AQHA (I think), he is NAERIC registered as "light horse" and a few people suggested I register him as a Canadian Pinto (he does qualify, even with the drafty bits). I could do open breed light horse shows with him, but I have no idea if we would be laughed out of the ring in any of these.

I really want to get into showing, I of course think he is the most beautful boy ever. I am open to English or Western, or both...I've had a few suggestions that I enter him in two-year old showmanship, which I will do, but I am curious about halter.

Does he have the look? Other suggestions for showing him as a two year old? I'm not getting on his back until he's at least three, so please no riding suggestions yet!

The little Friesian in the background isn't mine... I wish! She's 5 months and BEAUTIFUL!

Here he is as a week-old

And as a weanling last fall (much cleaner!)

Thanks! No plans yet...we'll see what he turns into. We're going to try some open breed halter shows, mostly for experience in the spring/summer...but once we start under saddle I'll see what he likes!

He won't qualify for anything with AQHA but if you "forget" about his drafty influence (which you can't really see all that much anyways) he could likely be reg'd Canadian Pinto and PtHA. I don't recall if they have restrictions on draftyness...so maybe you won't evenhave to forget about that...

You could take him to an American Warmblood Inspection, or even try the Performance Horse Registry.

I don't think PtHA takes draft crosses.

They don't. I'm not sure what their criteria is for "drafty" though. But when they are in doubt they will do an inspection before registering.
