Meet my new boy, MM Ace of Hearts

"I can't get to attached...I can't get to attached...I can't get to attached..."

I have to keep telling myself this over and over everytime I go see Ace. He is a two year old (July 28, 2008) NSH. He is SUCH a goofball. He is relatively calm and more curious than he is spooky. I will be completely honest in that I used to think that Saddlebreds were well...crazy (sorry guys!) as I had only heard bad things. But I am willing to give any breed a chance so this journey has started and so far, I am in looooove.

The lady told me that he hadn't been handled that much (knows to lead and stand for farrier) and boy is it obvious. I mean, he is constantly snooping my pockets, following me everywhere, reaching over the gate to nibble on my coat...I mean, this boy is shy

So here is Ace! They aren't the best pictures but I was excited to share!

This first one is odd. I think he was starting to pee and then decided not to

And I couldn't leave out my helper. This is Miss Kitty (for all of you who know Gunsmoke...) my dad's Blue Heeler pup. She is really more interested in chasing Ace than actually helping...but she is so stinking cute!

LOVE the tail. Nice looking guy, he does have a look in his eye like he could be a little goofy (like a big puppy). Pup is sooo cute with snow on her nose. I almost called my new horse Miss Kitty.

OH! This one is going to be fun to train. He'll be a step ahead of you all the way if you're not careful. Love those intelligent, spunky ones

when I was a kid shopping for my first horse, we went to look at a NSH that I fell in love with. unfortunately she was much too green for me and I was just learning. ended up taking home a lovely older arab from the same farm. but still always secretly had a crush on the nsh. ace is a cutie, and it looks like he will be hard to NOT get attached to.

If he is going faster than a walk, that tail is up in the air letting everyone know that he is coming! I have a couple other pictures where his tail is pretty much up over his back!

Oooo...what can you tell me/warn me about them? Like I said, I am completely new to the breed and it would be nice to hear what someone who has a couple of them has to say!

Don't even say it! He is suppose to be a project. I am going to get ground manners and what not started and hopefully sell him...Two horses are my limit that was set by my dad (he supplies me with hay and gives me enough for two, so I would have to buy hay) and if I wanted to keep him, that brings me up to three!!! He does have the charm and goofiness, plus his attitude towards new, scary things is great.

Yes, I do have papers. He is currently registered half-Arab and half-saddlebred. He is not registered as a NSH because the owner didn't want to pay the huge fee to do so. To be honest, I probably won't for the same reason! Obviously, he can be registered NSH though...

Let's see...direction...well I trail ride. Lol

I love to learn about all the different disciplines and have a general idea of at least all of them, however, I feel that I am not skilled/knowledgeable enough to get him that far. At the moment he knows how to lead and pick up his feet. That is it. So I am going to work on desensitizing him, tying, patience, etc and hopefully get him at least started under saddle. Then I would like to find him a good home!

holy crap if it weren't for the facial marking and big age difference I'd think he was my moms NSH gelding that was stolen 4 years ago. The conformation and colour is exactly the same. Wonder if there related
