I guess I have a thing going. Every fall/early winter, I take in a horse that needs a home. I always take in one that has issues that has little prospect of finding a home otherwise, and so far, after doing this for 6 years straight, I have always been able to help.
This year's project is a 5 year old red roan mare. She was halterbroke at 2 in a very agressive manner and then ridden a few times, and turned out for three years. She is friendly, comes up to you even in a 600 acre pasture and wants to be with people, but has nipped when pressed do actually do anything. I can fix biting, and she is otherwise respectful of space and people in general.
She will be here tomorrow and hang out in the roundpen for a few days before going out with the others. I hope to get her back under saddle by the end of the year depending on the snow levels.
I only have one pic of her right now, hope to get some more shortly after she arrives.
Her name is Pink right now, but I think I will be calling her Whisper.

Peppy is great as usual, she has it so hard. I dont ride her much, she just hangs out and bosses everyone around. Im so paranoid about pushing her and stressing her legs, so I take it really careful with her.
Casper's eye is completely healed, and he has regained full sight. I dont know how or why really and neither does the vet, but it is what it is and im happy to take it. The bad news is that his COPD is really not reacting to anything we give him anymore. Its not dusty at all right now so he is much better, but the thought of putting him down has come up a few times. I have completely retired him other than the kids sitting on him when he eats his grain, other than that he just gets love and lots of feed. His weight is good though, so we will just see how he progresses as we go.
Brandy is always the same it seems. She is a great little mare. My older daughter has progressed past the pony now and likes to ride Brandy. We will see how that goes.
Today:

Brandy does really good with her though, she listens well, just a little lazy. I have the opposite problem, shes so full of spunk I can hardly concentrate on anything but keeping up with her!
Sequoia is good. We are pretty sure he will go back at the end of our lease in January. He is a great little guy, but with him being much older than we had originally thought, the cushings and the fact that both my kids have now progressed past what he eagerly gives, I think its best for all of us. He is going back to a loving home, so its a good thing all around.
Baby Echo is getting so big! I dont think I have posted pics of her since she was born, but she is now 4 months old. She is very petite, but oh so sweet. She is well halterbroke, ties, picks up all four feet and lets us touch her anywhere. Other than reminder lessons every month or so, she is pretty much going to just be a horse until she is old enough to get under saddle, im not going to make the same mistakes I made with Peppy. Echo is a doll though. Have no idea what color she will be, right now her belly is white, her legs are a heavy roan, as well as her flanks and chest, but the rest of her has gone black. Its a guessing game as to what color she will be. Oh yes, and the sides of her tail are white too. Any guesses? Sire was a seal bay, dam is a bay.
