Chip at the Trainer's

Hot Zippin Chip, 3 yr old QH gelding, is at the trainer's now.

I figured I'd better get some "before" shots of my little guy, because in two months he's going to look a lot different!

Lovely head study of Chip

Here he is with his new buddy, a big 16hh Warmblood. I don't know the name of the grey, but will post it later when I do

That Warmblood is a real sweetie and they've become buddies.

He makes Chip look like a pony!

Playing with a pail

Chip is King of the Sandhill

Another nice head shot

I'm thinking that once he's trained, I can get up on him, ride him beside that big grey, and crawl over onto his back.

I miss Chip already He's such a laid back little guy.

He is a very handsome guy and you are so right about looking different when they come back from the trainers! They usually have muscles and such.
Good luck at the trainers, I can't wait to hear about it.

I know how people love pictures here, so this is after two weeks.

I can see that he's tightened and toned up along his body.

Out in pasture between training.

Saddled up and ready to work.

After the training session. That's his girlfriend in the back, an old grey Arabian mare who's calling to him.

This one makes me think he'll look good in a trail class!

Thanks for all the kind words folks!

Chip has been at the trainer's place for a full month now and I'm amazed at the little fella! He has a solid walk and trot. She is working on his sidepass and he even did a few steps at the trot! His lope is coming along, he is still figuring out the balancing, but every time she asked he went right into it and took the correct lead as well. He's still not sure of the back up. He has a very soft mouth and she showed me it only takes the suggestion of rein pressure to have him turn or back up. He even did a turn on the forehand and a turn on the haunches.

She's had him in the indoor arena, outdoor arena with traffic zooming along the road beside it, across the fields, into the woods and down the cutline. He isn't fussy whether she takes him out alone or with another horse. She said he natually goes slow, in fact he's one of the slowest horses she's ridden. So I definitely chose a western pleasure horse!

He taped out at 14.1hh and we're both sure at 3 years old he should at least hit 14.2 and be "horse" sized. That's okay though, I'm only 5'2" so I don't want a 16hh horse.

Chip at the walk...coming

and going. A big truck went by on the left at this point.

Nice little trot

Starting to extend at the trot

The lope

Turn on haunches

All in all, I'm really pleased with what one month has done and I'm excited to see how he goes after two months!

Yup he goes back to Zippo Pine Bar. Good eye! It's waaaay back there but I think Zippo Pine Bar made his stamp on many layers of generations. His pedigree is on allbreed under Hot Zippin Chip.

Beautiful boy! I LOVE that picture of him and the grey!
He's got a lovely butt, if I can say so! LOL

I'm not surprised he's naturally slow... I've found the Zippo horses to be some of the best Western Pleasure horses.
I also found most of them to buck retardly. LOL

Thanks! Yes you can say he's got a lovely butt!

I saw him "buck" the first time I asked him to lope with the saddle on in the round pen. Even I could stay on that little hoppity thing he did. I'm sure he thought he was bucking, but it was pretty pathetic. I made sure to tell the trainer about that, and she's been looking for it but he's not offered to really get his head down to do anything serious. Thought about it, then just did what she asked Thanks for the warning though!
