The Story of Prayer
I would like to share with you guys the story of a little Jenny named Prayer and why I encourage everyone to check thier pastures for... "baby donkey eating voids."
2 years ago we had Jingles foal out in the back field. Its about 7 acres. Jingles went to the farthest corner in an outcropping of trees and delivered a beautiful little grey jenny. I checked mama and baby over and all was well. I left them to bond in what I thought would be a nice safe place. Well, about a half hour later Jingles came running down braying at me, WITHOUT HER BABY!! That is just not Jingles. Jingles is a great mama..Now, I was kinda freaked out. What in the world could have happened? She led us up to the area she had foaled.Keep in mind we check our field weekly for anything anyone could get hurt on, holes in the fence, ect. Well this baby was GONE. I found what I thought was a ground hog hole and heard something down there. It was a sink hole and I guess it had just caved in with the baby. 15 ft down on a rock ledge we found the baby.... Below her was a 75 ft. drop straight down like a chimney. She wasn't moving. I just knew she was dead. Her name is now Prayer Landgone. That is why no one is allowed to foal anywhere other than the maturnity pens by my the house where I can walk DAILY and make sure the earth isn't gonna eat the newborns. Poor Prayer... the only donkey to come out of two holes in one day.

I should have included a pic of her... Here she is. She is two years old now, she has that teenage girl syndrome... Too old to be a baby too young to be all grown up. She spends most of her time by mavericks pasture (junior herd sire) Chomping at him and making a scene.
She cracks me up. Everyday I get a good laugh out of her trying to be grown up.[IMG] [/IMG]
