Mule's ??

I am thinking of buying a mule for trail riding. This is my first mule or horse. Does mules eat the same as a horse , grain and hay or will I need different feed from my wife's horse ( her first horse also) . We are just getting into trail riding and horses and mules. Any info will be appreciated.
Thanks
onehorse( I may have to change my name).

Welcome onehorse (or onehorse and onemule). There are a few mule people here, I will let them respond to your question. Glad to have you here!

Great choice, but you'll have to change your name. As far as food you will find your mule won't need as much or as high energy food as a horse. Unless you are riding real hard you can probably get by with just a good quality grass hay. Since mules are smarter than horses they tend to be less flighty and think their way through a problem. sometimes that's good, sometimes it can keep you busy trying to figure out a way to get them to do something they have decided is not in their best interest. If you're new to horses and mules it would definitely be best to find a "been there, done that" type older mule since they can be alittle trickier to train than a horse. Try to buy from a reputable seller that will offer to give you help while you are getting to know and work with your new mule. Good luck and if you have any other specific questions just ask.
