Gestation

So, gestation on a mare is 11 months, give or take. Gestation on a donkey is 12 months, give or take. What's the gestation for a mule?

Our's always run right around 11 months but I don't know if that's "textbook" or not...

I have heard that it is closer to 13 months. I have NO personal expirence with that though.

I have had a donkey carry up to 13 before, and gave birth to a healthy donkey foal so I guess it is possible.

Hmm... this is a tricky question. Hope someone knows for sure.

My understanding of it is that it's would be closer to the mother's natural gestation period - I beleive it has something to do with metabolic rates.

Hold the phone.. I thought Mules are sterile Or do you mean the horse mare that carries the mule foal? If thats the case Id assume it would be the same for a normal horse foal... wouldnt it? Im so lost on this end of the spectrum. I have little to no experience on mules (other than the few a friend used to have).

I'm talking about the result of a mare/jack breeding.

My boss's minis all foaled withing the same time frame as big horses.

But that has nothing to do with donkeys or mules.
