Payne's Pregnancy Journal *She's standing!
I believe my baby is going to have a baby!I'm so thrilled! I have decided to document it step by step, well, starting now anyway. BACKGROUND: Paco's Mismarbled Payne was a bottle baby. She spent the first few hours of life nursing a cedar tree. She was licked clean by the dog, fed goats milk, then fed colostrum from a jenny that had lost her foal. At that point she switched to mana milk and became a back porch donkey.Raising this baby was a full Lazziass Acres effort! That was so long ago. My little baby is now a coming four year old and believed to be impregnated by Goodnews Maverick, our junior herd sire. She has spent the last few years learning to be a 'real' donkey. However, she still believes her proper place is in the house. ![]() Mar. 9th of 2007 she was placed with maverick and well, my baby became a jenny! ![]() She stayed in a week and was taken out. Then she pouted and stood by his fence so we put her back in April. We didn't really think she took b/c we thought she had gone back into season but now we are seeing a slight bulge and her attitude has changed. So if she concieved Mar. 9th-11 months, 3 weeks and 5 days later will be mar. 6th her due date. Here she is today.[IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]See that bulge? That's my baby!!!! (We hope!) [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]And of course, here is Mavvy, the father. I'll get some updated pics of him soon. [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]

Great idea! Keep us updated! I have a mini jenny that may or may not be preggo too... it's a wait and see because my vet won't do a manual check on a mini. She does have a belly bulge too... but it could just be the hay.

Mavvy and I are talking right now. He won't quite trying to break out and move in with the horses. Silly boy. I will get pics as soon as I have time to brush him, he's mostly white and the ground is mostly brown so he's somewhere in between.![]() I'm starting to wonder if Payne is pregnant.... She should be bigger. But, I'm treating her like she is and she is loving it. ![]()

Did you actually see them breed? Have you noticed her coming into heat again? Just curious, because I hope she's pregnant!

Oh yeah, I saw it.
It was the first time for both, though. She stayed in a long time, took her out and she cried to get back in and she stayed in longer. She hasn't come back into season- she went all summer without cycling. Vet says just to keep an eye on those 'ninnies' for milk production. She's UTD and I'm just waiting for a slight change in her to bring her in closer to the house. She stays by the gate all the time anyway and I'm waiting to notice the slightest behaviour change. I've been fooled before so I'm not taking any chances... ![]()

Here are some photos and Payne today. I'm still unsure is she's bred or not.
![]() We'll just have to wait and see. She loves the attention though. ![]() [IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG][IMG] [/IMG]

Little Miss Payne is keeping everyone guessing, she almost looked heavier in the January pictures...
Have you ever felt any movement in her belly ![]()

Nope.
She's either not bred, or she's sneaky. I'm going to have to watch behaviour more than anything. She is more guarded than she was about say, 6 months ago. Usaully she causes all kinds of mayhem in the field, but has toned it down a bit. Could be a sign of being preggos but also a sign that maybe she realizes Sally, the alpha is gonna win everytime. ![]() She does look heavier in the January pics huh? We noticed that too.

how about an estrone sulfate test? It's used to test for pregnancy in mares and I don't see why it wouldn't work in donkeys? it's just a blood test but that way you'd know for sure or not... or possibly doing transabdominal ultrasound they way they do sheep and goats.

Alright... Let's try this again from the top.
Payne is in the breeding suite with Maverick. She isn't in season right now so Sally is in there too and she IS very much in season. She will be coming back in soon enough though. She was a few weeks ago.Right now she is more intrested in eating up all Maverick's food and beating the *&(*& outta him. Here they are today, Payne with her head in his dish as he looks on longingly. [IMG] [/IMG]Isn't he such a pretty boy? [IMG] [/IMG]

Hopefully this time she'll breed and you'll have 2 pocket donkeys.... (But that does mean that we would have 2 spare tires

Payne wants nothing to do with Maverick so far. In fact, she will go out of her way to beat him.
I am really hoping their isn't something wrong with her... I mean, she seemed ready when she was in the pasture playing piggy-back with the other Jennys.Maybe she just isn't in season right now. I'll keep you guys updated on my quest to settle this girl.
