Another popped! New baby! Long night! Long post!

Jitters had her baby! I walked out at around 9:15pm to do my nightly vigil. Jitters came out of the shed (strange) tail up (stranger) and started peeing. or so I though. I knew what was happening when she did a little dance.

I ran back in--- "Get me blankets! The baby's coming!"

I'm so glad I was present b/c it was so cold and to make matters worse, the birth sac didnt break right and was still over the babys face. (If you remember I lost my mares foal that way b/c I was too late.)

I pulled it off and that baby took a big ol breath

Well, everything was going fine- dried the baby and left mama and little boy to bond. I checked back every 30 min. At two hours baby was showing no signs of wanting to nurse.

So.... the long night started.

First we (my boyfriend and I) stuck our fingers in baby's mouth to maybe give him the idea that he needed to suck. It worked!

Then the next problem started... Jitters bag was too full and sore.

I had to restrain her (She doesn't belong to me- might as well- but was never imprinted or worked with. She's come a long way though!) I first tried to put the little boy towards the right place. She wouldnt have that.

So I milked her out a little(just a small amount to get the pressure off- froze the colostrum)

Then-----Baby nursed!

Every hour I made sure they were doing things right.

I went to bed when the roosters crowed.

I'm so tired but have a little healthy jack on the ground.

Haven't decided on the name yet... I'll have pics soon!

AWW, good thing you were there! He is SO adorable! Good job! What are you going to do with him? You said they weren't yours, but do you get to keep the baby at least?

Jesse- I'm going to tell you what I'm gonna do--- I'm gonna hold him, and kiss him, and squeeze him and hug him and....

It's a complicated situation- Yes, they should all be mine considering this one and the rest would probably be dead without us and we spend upwards of 40 dollars a week in feed BUT I will probably either sell him or geld him and keep him, depending what the market looks like when he comes of age. Of course if he is sold, his owner gets the $, I might get a little to help pay for grain though. It's a labor of love kinda thing.

We usually never had any problem finding great homes, but who knows?

I'll have to get some video of him and Plushie playing. .
