I Feel So Violated!

I have a Belgian/QH cross mare that is in heat a LOT. She recently took a liking to my mule. Poor Prince is/was so innocent! Maddie used her skillful prowess to entice Prince into mounting her! BAD Maddie! Anywho, I know mules are infertile but I have to ask, why does he have the urge to do that? He has no testicles! Is testosterone the driving force? I'm confoozled!

I've often wondered the same thing. With the testicles gone, what makes them tick? We have a gelding at work who is extremely studdy (he even had the hots for the fillies). The gelding I have boarding with me has actually "done the deed" with my "amorous" little pony mare. I now have her on a supplement called Pre Mare to tone down her "feminine wiles". It has worked wonders & they no longer do the nasty.

Testicles aren't the only organs that make testosterone. Adrenal glands, thyroid glands and prostates all contribute a small amount of testosterone. Testicles merely supply MOST of the testosterone.

instinct

I think that it is part of the male instinct and built into the DNA?

My jennet is young and often has the "feminine willies" and pushing her behind into eveyone she can.
The big mammoth tends to hover over her when she's in these moods, but hasn't mounted her yet. he is gelded. The other day, she was behind him, and almost mounted him, getting her front leg up around his flank.

Thankfully my gelding just gets a confused look on his face when the girls start winking at him, lol. I have heard about geldings that'll go all the way, I wonder if it has anything to do with the age they're gelded?

Good question...I know my daughter's gelding will mount the mares if they tease him enough...doesn't bother the ones who don't tease, though...he is the lead horse in the herd, followed closely by my TB mare, then the other mares, then the yearlings...and I believe he wasn't gelded until he was 4 or 5 and ran with the stallions till he was 10, when we got him (by the way, he had no marks on him, apparently he's always been top dog)...
