HT "status" (halter broke, weanling, etc.)

How is a member's status determined? I see "weanlings" with join dates of July 2007 and May 2008, "halter broke" with dates of Dec. 2007, May 2008, July 2007, and April 2008, "yearlings" with dates of Feb 2006, Dec. 2007, October 2007, and "green broke" with dates of Jul 2006, and "halter broke" with join dates of Jul 2006 (just to mention a few).

Is this automatic or does a moderator have to change it? Are these listed anywhere?

It's by number of posts, but I don't remember the breakdown off the top of my head.
