Chelsea

I don't know if many read about Chelsea, 4yo stock horse mare from the doggers pens, my daughters project horse she bought.

The more we got to know this little mare the more we realised she didn't know and was scared of. She seems to have had some rather rough handling before.

When she first arrived we had to leave her halter she came with on. Catching her took 10 minutes in our small paddock (maybe 1/4 acre). You couldn't go beyond her girth area back or she panicked and spun round you. You could not run your hand round her face and muzzle or she ran.

She ran from a rug on her. She ran from the sight of a flapping tarp.

Basically, she ran from everything. Or tried to.

Now my daughter has no trouble catching her in the 40 acre paddock, can lift the halter onto her (previously she was doing up the poll then the noseband), she can pick up her feet, walk behind her, brush her all over, flick lead ropes allover her. The little mare will follow her around the paddock. She has even walked up to my son and given him a good sniffing and let him pat her. Even sniffed the hubby.

Hubby is working on the round yard and will soon have it finished then the breaking work will begin in earnest. We have been waiting on that and a bit of good weather.

I will post pics as it happens.

Sounds like she is making some good progress. Looking forward to your updates, and pictures don't forget.

I love the touch your daughter seems to have with horses.. we may have three to start in a couple of years.. Are you sure she wouldn't enjoy a stint in the states for the summer..

Good for her ...

I think I need to clone that kid of mine.

She has 2 of her own horses to keep up with (only one in regular work though), Chelsea to play with and get educated. On the weekend she had another 2 horses offered to her to ride.

I am glad we are getting to the end of our school year so she will have more time for playing with them all.

If she is going to visit gbar in the States, it is just a hop, skip & a jump for her to come to Canada in a few years time to break my yearling!!
Sounds like she is doing a fabulous job!!
