Stormy's first trail ride went great!
Oh boy. Today I took Stormy out riding for the first time since she's been at the house (4 days) and she did great.
She's been pacing like non other, but since I took her out she's slowed down a lot.
And I'm amazed, my 1970's Circle Y fits her perfectly. It never ceases to amaze me. So far it has fit every horse that I have (with the help of a saddlepad, but...)!
My friend rode Rocket and we went out on a nice little trail ride behind some houses in the shade. Stormy lead most of the way! She hardly ever spooked/jumped in place (only a dog that jumped over a fence and a tractor moving dirt scared her.) And her gaits are sooooo smooth. Oh man.
Even though she hasn't been ridden in a year, she caught on pretty quick. At first she wouldn't stop, but then she figured out that whoa meant stop. She was very forward on the trail she kept a nice steady pace and kept on going. She was only a little unsure about a little bridge over a drainage ditch, but after one sniffed she crossed it no problem. She is a very brave trail horse. The lady said that she had been used for endurance a few years ago, maybe that helped. We walked along the street and had cars pass us, we had a big pitbull jump a fence and viciously chase her, and she just jumped in place, pinned her ears and struck out at it. One hoof to the face and it backed off.
I was very proud of her. She really exceeded my expectations.
