I'm so excited!

In May of this year, after 8 years without a horse, I bought Katie.

I've been boarding her since then (working weekends in exchange for free board) but tomorrow after I'm done cleaning stalls and feeding, I'll be riding Katie HOME! Yay!! Even though the barn is only 2 miles from home, there's nothing like having your horse right there with you. It's such a pain to have to get in the car and drive to the barn whenever you need a horsey fix.

We finished up our new pasture and barn (converted carport) this week and it's ready for move in. I hope she'll be happy in her new home. Here's the barn (run in) that measures 12x18 in the front for the horses and an 8x18 space in the back for hay, grain, saddles, etc. I'm buying stall mats for the front part too so that it doesn't get all muddy in there.

Only the cut area is our property and is fenced in.

Looking down the hill from our house.

AND! Because I don't want Katie to be lonely, I happened to run across an ad on craigslist for someone wanting to free lease a 22 y/o Appendix QH mare (option to buy after 6 months). The lady was very particular about who she wanted to take her mare and, after coming out to see our property, picked me. So she may be delivered tomorrow afternoon, too. I hope she'll be perfect as a companion for Katie, and a trail horse for my kids and/or husband (who are not horsey people).

It's going to be a busy day, because I have to go get hay too. And, of course, a trip to TSC to pick up a few more essentials.

I hope to continue working weekends at the barn, to pay forward for free board when and if it is needed (like for a few months in late winter/early spring to give the field a rest and the grass a good start growing. Hopefully, the barn owner will accept my proposal, which is I continue to work and for every month I work I'll get two weeks of free board for 2 horses. So if I work four months, that's two months free board. I plan to talk to her tonight.

I'll be sure to take pictures after everyone's all settled in!

Katie is gorgeous, as is your property! You did a great job with the barn, too!
We will wait patiently (not) for the pics of your new addition....

Wow, was yesterday a whirlwind of activity. Worked at the barn from 7am to 11am. Rode Katie home from the boarding facility. She did great considering she's not really a "trail horse" (YET). Took me about 40 minutes to go about 2 miles (half was through fields and woods and the other on back roads.)

Picked up a truckload of hay ...

Went to TSC to pick up a few more stall mats and other needed essentials.

Callie was delivered at 4pm. Put them in the field together... and after a squeal or two, they both started munching grass not even caring where they were.

I took pictures but, unfortunately, haven't been able to find my USB cable and my other stick to download from a memory card is at work. DRATS!!! So pics will have to wait until tomorrow.

Today they are still doing good although being devoured by huge horse flies. It's a wonder Katie has any blood left in her! They won't stand in the barn either. At least there's a huge oak tree in the pasture and they've been standing in the shade most of the afternoon. Silly horses ...

I succeeded in finding my USB cable so without further ado....here are my two horses, Katie and Callie, in their new home!

Katie just arrived .... lonely and looking for a companion.

Finally! Callie arrives and can't get enough of the grass.....

Katie and Callie together.

Awesome! Your place is gorgeous, great job with it. They look very content being there with you. Both of them are very easy on the eyes, I could stand to see more photos of them. Im sure others wouldnt mind either.
