A day full of horse accidents
This afternoon I went out to watch Bright at the trainers. He had her sadlle and bridled up and was fee lunging her in the round pen. It has really rained the last few days a the round pen was slick in a few areas. Bright was doing great, following his hand and voice signals without any problem. On her last lap before he was ready to mount up, she slipped and fell. All 4 feet down and she slid about 4 feet.
Of course my heart was in my throat but she got up and stopped and looked back as to see what caused her to fall. The trainer checked her out. There was no injure except to her pride. He then got on her and rode her for about 20 minutes after doing some flexing.
Coming up my road I see me neighbor's daughter and mother out in the field with the horses. I decide to stop and see what is going on. The leopard gelding that the daughter's husband owns was limping badly on his left front leg. There was no noticeable injury, no heat or swelling, Just a pronounced limp. The daughter said when she got there, the horses were in the lower pasture and came running up as they knew it was feed time. The gelding showed no sign of injury at that time. After the horses ate, she opened up their stalls to let them out and the gelding nearly fell walking out. That was when she noticed the limp.
The daughter then showed me where there 4 month old colt got hurt and how swollen his leg was. She called her husband and he came out to check on everyone. He called the vet and she said to start the baby on PCN, give bute to the gelding (I had bute and PCN on hand), keep them stalled and she would be out first thing in the morning.
With all of their horses injuries, I had to check and make sure the rest of mine were okay. Everyone was okay except Atty, she has a few scrathces on her irght back leg that I cleaned and treated.
What a way to end the day!
