This has been a day that was very hard...to watch Sammy leave really hit me hard.
The other horses soon stopped calling for Sammy and life returned to normal. The rains we have been praying for came with the crashes of thunder and the earth smelled fresh. An inch fell quickly and then it slowed to a mild warm summer rain. I decided to do the evening feed amidst the joy of needed moisture. The rain felt good.
The horses all greeted me with the joy of dinner coming.
I fed each horse and continued the evening ritual.
I fed the mini mare Karma and her young foal Blessing. Then the laughter came....
I feed them outside the barn, to avoid critters within the barn. None of the horses minded the soft moisture as they ate...well except for Blessing.
Blessing would stand in the doorway and then run out of the barn and grab a bite of hay and then run back into the barn to chew it. Then he would race to get another bite. I watched for about ten minutes. My audible laughter was matched by the sounds of the other horses chewing. The rains washed away my tears. The air cooled my grief. And Blessing made my soul laugh again....
