Interesting ride tonight

The plan for today was to take out Punk and get a short ride in on him. My aunt happened to stop over and some other people came over as well so we had a change of plans. I pulled Ziggy out and tacked him up with the intention of me riding him. When I pulled him out of the pasture, Don (an old school friend of mine and current friend of my brother) made a comment about what a nice horse he seemed to be. Well, our plans changed again then. We had Ziggy, Punk and Jazz tacked up. I had Mom go and grab Rocket and get him ready so that another friend of my brother's could go along as well. Josh (brother) took Punk on his first official ride on the road. Don rode Ziggy, Sam rode Jazz and Cory rode Rocket. Mom walked along with Punk just in case, I walked along pushing Brandi in the stroller and Heidi walked along with her dogs.

We went probably about 3 miles or so total. All the horses did great the whole ride out and really on the way home too. Punk even trotted for the first time with someone on his back. We were fairly close to home (at the neighbors driveway) and Don decided he wanted to trot Ziggy. . . well, I had tacked Ziggy up and I never do get the saddle very tight. As they started trotting, the saddle slid and Don ended up on the ground. Thankfully, this happened in the neighbors yard instead of on the blacktop. Ziggy was a bit spooked but was more concerned about what Don was doing on the ground. Don caught him and tightened up the saddle, went to get back on and Ziggy wasn't so sure he wanted that so he side stepped - yep, Don ended up on the ground again. Thankfully, he's a tough guy and has a great sense of humor. He just laughed it off. The next time he went to get on, I went over and talked to Ziggy as he mounted and all was well again. Thankfully, the rest of the horses were all fine. I was a bit worried that Punk might freak out during the whole ordeal but he did great. I'll tell you guys, it was an interesting ride!

Sounds like a good time, though! Any time spent on the road like that is a good time!

Oh yes, it was a good time! I think I'm more tired than the horses though.

The worst part of all of this, it seems like every time we have an incident with a horse, it's in that neighbors yard. That is where Pepsi dumped Heidi and broke her arm, it's also where Jazz reared up on me and I had to bail and now this. The guy must think we're crazy. But, he still talks to us and asks to ride with us so . . .

Well I'm glad no one was hurt and they all got out for a good ride!

You and me both! I wasn't sure what to think when I saw Don on the ground and Ziggy trotting away.

Ok, so the neighbor finds you and your friends a source of entertainment!

The main thing is that no one was hurt, horses behave themselves and everyone had a good time....you can't buy this stuff!

I think he does find us to be entertaining. He also has 3 horses and just go into them a couple years ago. He's learning yet so he looks to us sometimes for suggestions. After some of the stuff we've had happen, I think if I were him, I'd ask anyone but us.

I could not agree more! For a 6 year old, he does very well! I just love that horse to pieces. He's so willing to please that he'll do anything (for me). He's good with other people too, but he trusts me and I love that about him.

What a good boy ziggy is.. and since no one was hurt, too bad you didn't have a camera.. would have made for some great photos..

Sounds like a great outing.. the best way to spend a Sat.. horseback, with good friends and family..

I wish I would have had a camcorder! I think I could have won some money with that clip.

I do have some pictures, but they are from after the ride. I didn't think to bring the camera with when they were riding.
