Given a gift ***A horse***Picture added

I received a call last night from the BO. She said that after all I had been through lately, with selling Sandy because we were not a good match, Monet having to be put down and than my Beagle having to be put down, my cat with cancer, she would like to give me a horse!
I didn't tell her yes yet. I know the mare. Her name is Rosie. She is a 15hh , dead broke , sorrel Quarter horse mare. She is 14 yrs old. A been there done that kind of girl. I used to pet her when I would go out to see Monet and when I go with my daughter to help her with her filly. She was shown in her earlier days in showmanship and western pleasure. I have seen her being rode and she is so quiet.
I am just not sure what to do. She sounds like she would be perfect for me. I am thinking of telling her I would like to try her for a week or two first. Right now my heart is just to full of hurt to want to love another new animal. But I know that will pass and this mare is to good to pass up. I am going there this morning, so I will get a few pictures of her. What do you guys think? She is sound and healthy in mind and body. I want a horse I can ride out on the trails and be friends with. I am sure she would be that horse, but is it too soon? But if I pass on her, I may not get another chance for such a well broke horse. Oh, to many decisions these days. I know, I am rambling.

I woud explain your emotional state to the BO, just as you have posted here. Surely she will understand , since she already is empathetic enough to offer the horse in the first place. Sounds like a trial period would be a good thing to ask , and go from there.
Doesn't seem like you are being ungrateful or anything, just overwhelmed at the moment, and need time to take a breath and consider things.
Good luck.......and sounds like you have a good friend in the BO.

I would do the week trial to see if you guys click. Like you said, you want to make sure you are a good match and you can have an emotional bond since going through everything. Its hard when you lose an animal to bond with another sometimes. I think thats really nice of the BO to offer you the horse. Just make sure she is healthy and sound before you make a final decision. You certainly dont want anymore heartbreak. Can you post some pics of her so we can see the pretty girl?

I am going there this morning because the farrier is coming for my daughters filly. I will get pictures. She is really pretty and so quiet. I know she ground ties, rides bareback, baths, clips, loads, stands tied forever, stands for the farrier and is not freaked out by flags, cars, dogs, or cows. But I do think I am gonna ask for the week or so trial period. Oh I feel my heart beating a little faster. You all know what that means!

You are very lucky to have such a sweet friend. Go see her, you may find she is just what you need right now. You have through so much, but sometimes things happen for reasons not immediately known to us. If this horse is kind, sweet, and safe is is a gem. After the gift you gave Monet, she may be giving back to you. This may sound crazy, but when we lost our mare unexpectedly, I can say many good things have happened. We rescued a pony who now has her own little girl. Both the girls have new riding instructors who treasure them and have become great friends. I see these as little gifts from our girl, Ginger. Her presence is around us. Monet and Riley are watching out for you too.

How incredibly generous, you're very fortunate to have a friend like that. I have no idea how I would react if I was given that chance I'm sure you'll do the right thing tho.

How very generous of your barn owner...
Honestly, it could be a good move on your part..
I do agree that you should have a trial period..
Make sure you feel comfortable with and around her..
You may find out that she is your horsey soul mate.
I know it's not the same, but when my Chihuahua died I knew I had to have another...
Now that I have him, he's healed the pain caused by loss.
This horse may do the same for you..
If it were me, I'd go ahead and ask for that trial period.
See how it works out.
You may be suprised

BabyMay, such incredible news!

First, I'm so sorry about your losses and the sadness that surrounds you. Loosing any animal is so very difficult for folks like us. I'm sure your heart is breaking.

But, what a wonderful offer your BO is making you. I know all too well how much you don't want to love another anaimal right now -- especially with all you've just experienced, but maybe this mare will be just the band aid your heart needs.

When I lost my wonderful mare, Rosie, a dear friend gave me his horse. Percy was a wonderful friend to both of my daughters and my partner in crime on many occasions. I found such strength in his goodness, I'm not sure how I managed without him all those years.

I think you're wise to go slowly, but your heart will tell you if you're doing the right thing.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Hugs from Virginia.

Take Rosie's face into your hands and let her tell you if she is yours. (Maybe even rub her ear to see if it feels velvety ). I think you will find Riley and Monet have asked God to bring you an animal to love. God has answered those prayers for you.

Share your heart (joy, fear, graitude) with the BO and thank her.

I think you own excitment shows your heart is ready.

And you know the RULE of HT - get those pics

Take a moment and let tears fall for your beloved pets that are now in heaven, bend a knee to God to say thanks, and then smile and kiss your new horsie.

Sometimes it takes a new companion to help your heart heal.

What a generous offer from your BO. I agree with the others; explain your emotional state and try her out. If it's a good match you will know.

Well here is a picture of Rosie. I am gonna take her on a 2 week trial. The BO said that was fine. She was sure I would decided to keep her. She is such a gentle girl. I brushed her this morning and told her all my heartaches. She listened well. Here is a picture the BO gave to me, because I forgot my camera . I will take more later.

If it was me, I'd talk it over with Rosie. I think she'll prob be able to make you sure, one way or the other; you'll either "feel it", or you won't. I'm sorry things have been so awful and hope you're feeling better soon. I just saw the pic you put up, she looks like a "keeper".
