How to desenitize your horses..

to farm equipment. Last year my horses met the big tractors and round balers when they cut my pasture. At that time I did not have Ginger, so in the last 9 months she has met the tree cutters with chain saws, big trucks, logging trucks and other logging equipment. In the last week, she has met medium tractor and square hay baler all in her and the others pasture.

I think this picture says it all:

And this is her trying to break one of the bales of hay apart:

Since I live in a very rural place, the horses get to watch farm equipment go up and down the road all the time. They also get to watch the airplanes swoop low in the fields across the creek spraying chemicals on the sweet potatoes. They hear almost daily gunshots, have met the deer and endured my chickens and ducks under there feet.

I can't wait until next month to see what she does when they come in to put up the new fencing and separate this pasture up into four separate fields. Then the next month she gets to watch them build her a new barn after tearing down the old rotten one down.

She is getting big and looking good

My silly horses like to trot after my BF's truck when they are in the yard eating grass and he pulls around back. Sometimes they stand in the yard and wont move from in front of him even after you blow the horn

Cute pics BTW!

Looks like I should send Opie down to you during haying next year! Our BO's brought in a tractor this week to move the manure pile around, and Opie had a fit!

Ginger looks great- It looks like she was standing over that hay bale claiming it as her own!

I am always amused at the horses response to something new. the big things don't phase them anymore which is nice, I pick the pastures with the New Holland and they follow along beside me my yearling continues to try and eat the steering wheel off!
sometimes it's the little things that really get them going like the time my husband decided to seed the pasture and they were in it

Kris-your horses look terrified of that contraption.

FG- You mare looks like she's trying to figure out where the funny looking blue horse came from.

Kris, I did that this spring and my horses surrounded me and try to eat the seeds. The only way for me to get it done was to go give them their grain and rush seeding. Of course after they ate, they went and rolled in all the areas I seeded. Needless to say I had horses that were covered in seeds. I did have a few places the seeds sprouted though.

I often wondered if I had wetted the horses down if the seed would have sprouted on them.

LOL that is too funny!

Mac loves tractors. When they are running he just wants to check them out.

Highhorse these two followed my husband the entire time he seeded 4 acres they actually kept getting in his way. Ferronsgranny.no seed actually took, they probably ate it as well. little stinkers...they are finally getting use to the seeder, it was just one of those moments and of course I couldn't resist a photo.
the other day the kids were flying kites the horses were histerical to watch! I actually got some on a short video I will load someday
