Talking *$@$** Appy, and herd dynamics

We were out putting up a new fence all afternoon. The big spotty horse was turned out for a couple of hours this morning, and then I caught him and put him back in the dry lot before we set off.

We got back and I popped over to the barn to check on my boy, thinking he's bound to be inside in the shade eating his hay. So I was a little surprised when the barn was empty, but thought no bother he'll be outside having a drink. I was more surprised when he wasn't there, but thought that's OK, he'll be talking to the other horses round by the gate................................
.................................................. .................................................. ...
the gate that is now standing wide open no horses to be seen, only a slightly damp and frayed rope laying by the gate post.

Out in the nearest paddock I have 3 horses contentedly grazing, so it looks like those rope ties I was intending to replace, now will have to be done I'm starting to see what people meant about Appy's.

Everyone has settled down out there, so will leave them be. Max is put out, Frejya was always the alpha mare, and Max was her devoted right hand man, which has meant that Fancy was the low girl.

Now it seems that the big guy may be the leader, Max is a natural follower anyway, and Fancy is walking round like Elvis has returned, she can't take her eyes off of the big boy, she is just star struck

Apps are very smart, they will watch you and try to do what you do!!
That is why all of my gates have chains with snaps!!

Oh arn't appys fun? My boarders appy ends up in the most random places when I forget to latch gates. Last time he got up he ended up in our mini orchard eating apples right off the tree, happy as can be.

I second Houdini as a name!

I don't think life will be boring, he's also smart enough to know that he's done something wrong

No name is sticking yet, I've tried a few, but I just acn't get anything to work

If you are going to insist on calling him "the big spotty horse", you will have to call him Spot for short . Sounds like he is going to be keeping you entertained as well!!

Yes Spot was starting to creep up on us, so to prevent that we have gone for Appy Gilmore

He is an entertainer for sure, but is also lovable, This morning for the first time he came up to say good morning and get his cuddles

Laughing with you at his antics -- you are going to have to remember to close every door and shut every gate. He he will be the one to let all his friends out for a walk and be the one standing in the pasture with the innocent "who me?" look on his face.
Gotta love 'em.
My TWH today walked in to the barn and proceeded to pick up a bag of feed (unopened) and try to open it, knocked over the bin with the goat feed in it and had the nerve to stand there (over the bag of feed) with the "who me?" look on his face. Yeah, right -- busted mister!!!

What is it about those Appy's? My boy must have a long lost strain because I planted shrubs out front and walked out to find one hanging out of my boys mouth and I swear the same "who me?" look. Of course we will need pictures of said horse-hopefully in the middle of one of these antics

I don't know who to blame for this one

Went out to evening check to find Max wandering up the yard to meet me

Caught him up and went and did a check round, guess what we have an open gate, but Fancy and Appy are still where they are supposed to be, both we looks of pure innocence.

We are taking cows to market tomorrow, guess who's stopping in town for several yards of chain and some combination locks

Let's see -- let the other guy out and stay put and see what happens!! If this has not happened before, you can bet it is Appy who is behind all the fun!!

I really do like Appy Gilmore!
I was going to say that maybe you should follow Fancy's thoughts and call him Elvis!

Or Presley.

Before we bought Cooper, the barn personnel where he was at called him "The Happy Appy". Then decided he needed a real name so he became Chocolate Sundae.

Or Elvis - after all, then you could say "ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BARN..."
