Talking The healing power of Mac

My next door neighbor is an older gentleman who can be really grumpy. I wave him, bring him cookies and try to be as kind as possible (he got very angry at me when my dogs got loose and ran across his lawn). He constantly complains about the horse smell, the noise when the horses neigh to eachother, the noises from us unloading hay, the constant traffic of boarders, vets, farriers, and every little kid from the neighborhood that comes over to ride.

Yesterday I was organizing the garage to try to unpack a few more boxes. I had a direct view of the horses, but the neighbor couldn't see me because I was in the dark creepy garage.

The neighbor comes up to the fence dividing our properties, his backyard fence is right up against Mac's stall. I see him over petting Mac. Then all of the sudden, he starts saying "Who is a good boy? Who's my pretty boy!" and he kisses Mac on the nose! And Mac, being the ham that he is, just stood their happy as could be. I can't believe it, the guy that constantly complains about my horses LOVES Mac! He stayed over there for 10 minutes, just petting Mac and giving him little carrots. Then when he went back into his house, Mac nickered at him. I wish I had my camera with me.

I love my Macaroni pony. It's funny, people are so drawn to Mac. That really touched me, my grumpy old neighbor loves Mac. My $100 horse is worth his weight in gold.

The old guy might be lonely; how nice that he made friends with Mac.

Apparently, Mac knows how to lay on the charm, and he doesn't even need cookies!! It must be that pretty face that got to the old guy's heart RB

LOL his face is a little deformed because of the toothbumps, and sometimes that scares people...

but he does have a way to charm people AND horses.

I tell you, CrookedBlaze, Mac looks great! For not having much pasture, he's nice and round, and shiny. He really looks beautiful.
What are you feeding him, and how much per day? How big/ tall is he? And how old is he, and whats his breeding?
My guy always looks his best on grass, otherwise, with him, it gets tougher every year. Granted, He's 26, but I've always found it hard to acheive that same look on grain and hay. This year, though, I'm switching to a higher fat feed than Purina Equine Senior. Don't get me wrong, I think Equine Senior is great, I just think my guy needs more fat than 4%. It's NOT doing the trick.

He's on half alfalfa half bermuda. He seems to like the grass hay better He gets a little equine senior grain (I love that stuff, it keeps my older guys working), and a little gleam and gain, which is why his coat is so shiny. He's about 14.2 (but it looks like he should have been bigger, the vet said his growth got stunted by a little less then a hand probably). He is 6 years old!

And here's the link to his pedigree. It's not fantastic, but he has some good sires way back.

Ohh boy Wolfie am I thinking about it. He's in training and doing really well, the trainer even said that if he turned out to be a quiet riding horse that he'd buy him...the trainer is absolutely in love with him.

But if we kept him, that would mean I couldn't get a competition horse, and I wouldn't be able to show. All 3 of my horses are trail horses, Stormy doesn't have the speed, Rocket's too old and the chiropractor has basically told me because of Mac's back competing on him regularly would shorten his riding career by atleast 5 years.

We're seeing how he turns out after training. I'm so torn about it.
