Monday Parable #4 - let go and go gently

I hope what I wrote this week makes sense...(yeah as compared to what???? )

This has been a rough week - for so many that I know, there has been death, and illness, and issues to face that are beyond human understanding. The HT family as well said a gentle goodbye to Zach and to others this week.

I am late posting this and did not post a Thursday with Gaits...On Wednesday evening, one of our cockatiels died unexpectedly ....then at 2:30 am on Thursday, I fed horses by lantern light to get ready for a trip to St Louis for Peter-John to see many doctors. Returning late in the evening to again care for critters and then finding I had yet more friends that were facing loss...I also found out that Peter-John will be having to endure yet more tests and will be having another surgery which just overwhelms my soul. All this has weighed heavy on my heart. My body and emotions were in so much pain, I could barely function for a few days.

There have been many other issues of uncertainty for our future that have been looming before me, making me feel lost in it all. And it is hard to plan for the future, when the future is so unsure.

Then the GREAT FARMER reminded me of this lesson.

"Let go and go gently"

***************
A friend had invited the wise farmer (that's me ) to come and ride her horse on the mountain trails. The friend was going to ride a young horse and the wise farmer (that's me ) was to ride Coppy, the show horse. This top winning Tennessee Walker would be competing the next day in the big show and the wise farmer had been told the ride would do the horse good.

However, when ready to go out on the trails, a family matter had my friend decide to stay up at the house. Yet, she bid the wise farmer to go ahead and ride the trails anyway.

So the wise farmer (that's me ), took off alone on the show horse. The trails had been well traveled and Coppy knew them well. For 15 minutes or so the wise farmer and Coppy wove their way along the wooded trails. Life was calm and the ride felt soooo very good.

Then in an instant the trail disappeared. Turning back around the trail was not evident behind them either. Leaves and branches covered the ground.

The wise farmer (that's me ) and Coppy searched, yet no trail seemed to have ever been there. The wise farmer wondered how such a clear trail could have just vanished. Soooo deep into the woods, the wise farmer wondered how to find the right way to go.

The wise farmer (that's me ), feeling totally lost, gave Coppy her head and told the mare to head back to the house. The wise farmer let go and told the mare to go gently.

Stepping over a huge tree that was in the way, the wise farmer heard the hooves scrape the wood and feared the horse would cut up her legs before this big show, but had no choice but to continue to trust the horse. Bushes and leaves, trees growing so close the pair had to squeeze through at times, logs and creeks, uphill and down....the wise farmer had no option but to trust.

Soon a trail appeared and the wise farmer took back the reins and the pair followed the trail on back to the house. No marks were on the horse and no one knew they had ever lost the trail (well until now )

Moral: There are times when we are following the path that has been set before us that is soooo very good. Suddenly, we feel totally lost. That is the time when we need to give the GREAT FARMER control and trust HIM....that is the moment we need to let go and go gently. And in doing so, the GREAT FARMER puts us back onto the right path to bring us safely home.

Thank you very much for that reminder.

Sometimes we just have to step back and take care of us and our own. We certainly understand.

And it made total sense!

Thank you again for Monday's parable.I pray that when you feel drained, tired and the trees are closing in on you, that you feel the mighty arms of our Heavenly Father wrapped around you and your family protecting you from life's scratches. You say "I can't go on" God says "My grace is sufficient".
