And I thought about selling this mare?!?!?

I took Southie for a ride around the block today & did she ever prove her worth! We met several "obstacles" that would have most horses coming unglued & she just kept on truckin'.

Obstacle number one...garbage truck...twice! First, head on. Second from behind, guy hanging out the door telling me something (couldn't hear him though), air brakes make their noise right beside us & she merley flinched, that's it!

Second obstacle...ginormous construction sign complete with flags flapping in the wind. She didn't even bat an eye.

Third obstacle (& this is the big one)...hydro guys. Three parked trucks on one side of the road & FOUR guys hidden in the brush along the other side of the road, each with a chainsaw running! She was concerned but never once fussed over any of it.

A sane mind is the most important factor to me & boy did she prove she has one today!

Mine would have dumped me at the garbage truck...the first time! I'd say she's a keeper!

The next day, I was lunging her & she nearly ran me over because of a scary, horse-eating pile of rocks. Oh to think like a horse! Why on earth rocks more frightening than chainsaws & garbage trucks I'll never know. She's still a keeper though as she got over it quickly.

Because, silly, chainsaws and garbage trucks don't eat horses, but rocks do! Don't ya know that? So naturally the rocks are about a billion times more scary!

In all seriousness, sounds like she was a pretty incredible girl through that whole scary journey. Even with being scared of the horse eating rock pile, she still sounds like a keeper.

Well apparently that's it Pretty Pony!

It's so funny. They often times aren't afraid of the things that can actually hurt them but are terrified of the things that cannot. I was riding one of the horses at work in the ring & my boss' "adopt-a-husband" (he does all the "man" jobs around the farm) was cutting down trees in the paddock right next to the ring. Well this gelding didn't even bat an eye at the falling trees landing just a few feet from him but he has an issue with umbrella-type things. The falling tree has a better chance of hurting him than the umbrella...but not in his eyes apparently.
