Found a pair of horses today. UPDATED Pg. 2

Two mares this morning on the back highway to town. One of them is a paint and the other looks like shes gaited. Momma and filly it looks like, and momma may be carrying another foal. I sure hope not, she is in sad shape.

This doesnt show how really icky she looks. Poor thing is covered in scars and has apparently been wearing a halter for many many years. The young one (maybe 2 or 3 yrs) doesnt seem like she is halter broke, but also very scarred up.
Not a great pic, this one is CUTE, even though she is a little dainty.

Hopefully we will find their owners soon.

Updated:

So, noone has claimed them yet. Animal control was here and asked the property owner to keep them for 72 hours.
The bigger mare was easy to lead earlier, but now that she is in the pen, she is very offish and broodmare-ish. Doesnt want anything to do with anyone.
The other one on the other hand, is an absolute sweetheart. She is pony-sized. We had thought she was the other mare's foal, but she is not. Also, the little one has a huge bag on her, and may be pregnant and getting close to foaling, either that or she just weaned a foal, but her teats dont look "used" they look very maiden, just full.
The older mare has a very round belly, but no bag.
I really like this little mare, she would make a killer show pony, and now that she has calmed down, she is a doll. very, very sweet and cute.
Will keep ya'll posted.

They were running up and down the back highway to the town where we live, about a quarter mile from the property where I keep my horses. Noone in the area knows where they belong or has ever seen them. Animal control or the sheriff have never seen them.

By the looks of the older mare...I dont know if I would want them to find their old owner. That older mare looks horrible! I wouldnt want the old owner to get her back...plus....where did the scars come from? Maybe the old owner? I dont know...that older mare is just in sad shape
Thank god you found them though or they may have been road kill
Some people and how they treat their animals
They are very pretty horses BTW...not trying to be totally negative hereI Hope they find a SUITABLE home together soon

I really like that black one, would you believe me if I said she escaped off my farm and ran away? I don't know how she made it all the way to Idaho, she must have hitched a ride with some wild stallion!

How sad. Glad you were able to get them to safety and the owners are found.

Aside from being in very sad shape, they are beautiful mares! Thank goodness you found them before they got hit by a car or something. I hope a suitable home is found for them soon. I really love the black one, she has markings very similar to our Zena.

That black mare looks like she might be a spotted saddle horse. There is one at my barn that looks identical to her, build, face shape, even down to her markings and he is gaited like a dream!

Net posse will list found horses too. Can call them or email them, or check their online listings. maybe a neighbor of yours has a downed fence and the mares got out.

heres the current lists of stolen horses by state, currently several have been stolen in Ca. on the route to mexican slaughter.

The little black mare is very sweet. She is a doll and has all kinds of leg action. She is very proud when she moves, brings her hind end under her and gets her front legs out in front with her tail flagging along behind. Shes cute for sure. shes a love bug too. The pic makes her look funny, but shes very femenine in the face too.

The older mare is somewhat soured on people.. she let me run my hand down her neck when she was eating last night, but other than that she didnt want anything to do with me.

Well, there was a call to animal control a little bit ago. The guy said he thought his neighbor MIGHT be missing a horse about a mile from where these two were found. He was going to call back after he had spoken to the neighbor.

Im sad now.. I feel for these girls, they had to have crossed a major north-south highway to get where they were from where he is, thats scary.

Plus, I feel for the mare, shes in rough shape.

I sincerely hope that AC won't allow them to go back to that person if they're his. The older mare is in terrible condition and probably braved the highway just to get away from him! Jerk!

ETA: Thanks for taking care of them.

Well if i found two horses and one looked that bad I would try to keep them both and not go back to where they were not very well taken care of. they probably ran away hoping for a better home. Can you point them in my direction please.
