The first rule of working with animals...

..is not to get attached to those you have no control over.

I break this one all the time.

We just got on of the TB broodies back from the "maternity ward" skinny as all hell..and she was fat as a tick when she left, plus the baby is fighting an infection and on antibiotics 3x a day.

This mare is a personal favorite of mine. While I understand that Tb's being what they are, do lose weight under stress....to see her so skinny and sad makes me furious.

Owner is upset also, but not the emotional type, so venting to him would be inappropriate.

But I am so volunteering to foal watch, even sleep in the barn next season. I am sure renting a travel trailer would be cheaper then what he paid anyway.

I really need to develop boundaries where other peoples animals are concerned.

Sorry for you and the mare, a camper trailer is the best bet and we will all do mare stare with you.
