Once it is split the hoof won't reconnect on its own it just has to grow out! If she has shoes on it shouldn't go any higher especially since he put the groove above it!

One of my mares had a split hoof when I bought her and evidence of an abscess. But as it grew out the split stayed. It wasn't until the abscess came again that I had it treated properly with antibiotics and thrush/white line medicine and the hoof is growing out without the split! Don't know if this is what is happening with your horse, but it does have to grow out in one piece, it can't reattach.

I agree with the others, the split has to grow out. It's really not a big deal most of the time as long as the split doesn't make it to the coronet band. Also, you stated that your farrier made some lines through the split, I have found that an X at the top of the split works the best because the hoof can't split in any direction past the X. You can also treat the hooves with a mix of venice turpentine and dmso ( mix and paint with a brush, the dmso will make you nauseus ) to toughen/harden the hoof wall if needed.

You know, if you get a farrier who puts that cross on top of the crack, you have a wise farrier, LOL!

I have had in the past suggest that they want to use a bond adhesive. I have yet to see it done, as even I declined, but if anyone has, what were the results?

As long as the hoove is held in place by shoes, or other, and using a compound to aid in development, it will be fine!

Splits or cracks can be caused by the trim, diet, and the environment. I don't believe rasping above the crack. In order to prevent the crack from goin up further you'd have to rasp all the way through the hoof wall. This can invite some nasty bacteria in.

If there's a lot of cracks near the bottom it could mean the hoof wall is too long and it's starting to self trim. It does this by splitting and cracking. Then the hoof wall will break off at or above the sole plane.

You can add hoof supplements to the diet to improve feet quality. Be sure the supplement has biotin, copper, and zinc in it. You won't see results until 'bout a month. Also, this may increase the growth rate of the feet so keep an eye on them, you may need a more frequent trimming schedule
