Easyboot/Old Mac vs shoeing?

Hi all...I apologize if there is already a post of this sort. I am just wondering about anyone's experience positive/negative with using a boot of some kind to protect the hoof while riding instead of shoeing their horse.
My gelding is very sensitive on the front and can't go far down the gravel road at all...I prefer not to shoe if possible.
Thanks!

I thought about boots...they can be difficult to put on and take off, they can rub your horse's ankles, they can get things stuck in them, and they are sometimes hard to get a good fit.

I have used cavallo boots for my husbands mare front and back My ONLY complaint on these are they are VERY hard to size. According to they box my mare should wear a 1 in back and an 2 in back but they would turn on her foot so I went a size smaller and let her brake them in!!

Easyboots I have these also for my mare she is VERY tender front and back the cavallo boots rubbed her VERY bad so I went with the normal easyboots where the bulb of the heel or buttress can hang over and the work very well. They are more difficult to put on and take off but not bad. They stay on VERY well. I'd would go with these for m husbands mare if I had the money to just go buy new ones.

So you would not purchase Cavallos again? I have heard so many talk about the old macs?? They are more expensive than the Cavallos but if they are better in the long run??

I bought Macs for a guelding here and they were a PAIN in the to put on so he never wore them. I had shoes on my mare and stallion and got this bright idea to try the Macs on them since they were just collecting dust. Well turned out the shoes which are a 3 were too small (eventhough the old owner told me he was that) and that's why they were such a pain.

They in fact fit perfectly on both my other horses. I haven't ridden Tia in them yet but Rosario is very sensitive and even with shoes if the stones were really big he still would get some nasty bruises. I rode him for the first time a few days ago with them on and WOW what a difference. I had to get off a few times to adjust them as they are brand new and are stretching but I will be keeping them from now on.

My ferrier also said that these are the best boots he has ever seen, velcroed inner padding for inside the boot and 3 velcroed spots on the boot itself plus a buckle. He was very impressed as to how secure they are, not to mention the fact that 2 horses getting shod every 8 weeks was costing me 120 bucks. I found these on Ebay for $150 and they should last at least a yr. You do the math, that's a huge savings.

No i wouldn't buy cavallo again. I haven't tried old mac boots yet. I have tried the boa boots and liked them very well they were just a size to big for my mare and sold them.

ok another quick question Saddle up Tack is having a Close Out special on the original Mac's? For only $75! Only a few sizes but wondered if this might be a good way to try them?? Any suggestions when sizing the hoof? Should I just follow the guide lines on the web site?

I not a really bit fan of the totally enclosed boot I've had trouble with both the boa and cavallo's rubbing the buttress on my mare so far the cavallo are ok on my husbands mare but her buttress doesn't stick out as far either.

Measure and remeasure and measure again!!! They look to run small. I'd say that is a great deal!!!! Even if they don't work I know at that price you could most defenitly resell them!!!

I love the Cavellos...... took me a couple to get the correct size for my mare--they seem to run big to me. But I love them. Easy on and easy off--do not rub her at all. If you fit them right they shouldn't rub
