There are quite a few threads on this- Here is a few I found. There are a few more.

Shoe Alternatives-- Boots?

Easy Boots?

Easyboot, yes or no

We use Old Macs on our mounted unit and love them. I also use them when I trail ride. Just remember, when measuring for any boot, measure just BEFORE your horse gets trimmed. If you measure when your horses was just trimmed, the boot will get tight as the foot grows and cause the horse to get sore.

I ride a gaited horse so was worried that the weight of the Boa boot would interfere with her gait (since I use them only on the front). I opted for the EasyBoot Epic. Big pain to put until I removed the heel strap. (I know many riders who use the Epics and the first thing they do is remove the heel strap. The strap also cut my mare's heel.) Good boots, good grip, no rubbing on heel bulbs (like you can get with Boa's).

So try the epic with out the gaiter!!! I had boa once and they turned on my mares feet but I think they were a size to big?

The Epic, by definition, has the gaiter. And the EasyBoot without the gaiter has a heel strap. It's the heel strap, not the gaiter that put a gash in my horse's heel.

I really like the EasyBoot Bares, but they are pretty hard to get put on.

If the Boa turned on your mare's foot, it was probably too big -- or her feet were a shape not conducive to the shape of the boot. Foot shape can partially dictate which boot works better.

I found a few types that come in 00. I'm not sure about pony sizes? I can't afford shoes every 6 weeks and won a pair of boas used once on ebay for 80 a great deal!!!

I've seen "trading forums" for used boots... google "hoof boot swap" or "hoof boot trade", etc. and you should find them.

I've got both the Boas and the Epic Easy Boot and I really like both of them. I use the Boas on one of my mares but I can't use them on her dam. They rub her so I had to get her thei Epics and they are great for her. So it probably depends on the shape of your horses foot and you might not know until you try them. It's so expensive to do it that way though. I like the Epics because they sit below the hairline so you don't have to worry about the rubbing but they are a little tougher to get on than the Boas.

I haven't done any really long riding in the Boas so I don't know how Rain would do if I rode her in them all day.

I've never used any of these boots but know tons of people who have and have loved them. Now like anything in this world everyone has there favorites and certian things work better for one person and not for others, but the boots I've heard the most about and have been told are the best are the Old Mac's.

But the best thing to do would do your research and if possible borrow a pair from friends etc to see what fits and works best for you and your horse. It's best to measure up for boot size shortly after a trim to get a proper fit.

Ok I went with a pair of cavallos and a pair of boa's. So far I have the cavallo's in hand and according to the chart she should wear a 2 but I looked at them and they looked way to big so I went with the ones and sure enough they worked. So they seem to maybe run large? I'll ride in them and tell you how they work and if they leave rubs or anything!!!

My boas are being mailed so I have to wait for them!!!

Refresh my memory........Are the boas the ones with the turn dial in the front ?? If so, be careful, we field tested a pair on our mounted unit and the horse was lame within an hour. Very sore. We stuck with our old macs. They have been very reliable w/ no issues.

I love my easy boots. My appy mare can go barefoot most of the time but when we head out on the really rocky trails, her hooves are protected. I had to trim the sides on my sister's easy boots because they rubbed the coronary band, but no trouble now. They last so much longer than shoes, they are worth the price.

I had won a pair of easy boots for 50 on ebay 00 but right before she mailed them she relooked at the size and they were 000 to small.

The cavallo I have for my mare are rubbing her buttress so I'm not sure if that is to bigg or to small?

I started with easy boots, and decided to try the Boas, I bought the gators for them and had no problem with rubs (without them they rub like crazy), and the comfort pads. All was good till I lost one on a trail ride, and yes they can come off. I had one where the dial would pop off and the cable would loosen and the boot would fall off.

I recently bought the epics and am really liking those, and am looking to buying the bares for my other guy.

I wouldn't buy another set of the Boas, and I have never tried Old Macs, but heard only positive things from other people.

I find the comfort pads make a big difference for my guys, provides a nice cushioned step.

I have been interested in the hoof wings, has anyone tried those? For some reason their website isn't working right now.
