Welcome to HT and welcome to horse ownership !!! Trims usally take < 30 minutes per horse as long as the horse stands well and there is no issues with his/her feet. Its best to trim on a concrete surface (level) so the farrier can see the feet well and make sure he gets them balanced. Horses usually go 6-8 weeks between trims. That you will have to play by ear. I would reschedule for 8 weeks, but if you see the feet can't wait that long between trims due to growth, chips, cracks etc, you know to go 6 weeks. My gelding is actually on a 5 week trim schedule. Have your farrier give you a little lesson on hoof care for your area. Your area may be prone to dry hooves, he can reccomend a topical moisturizer or even a supplement to put in their grain. Let him talk to you about thrush. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Is your horse at home or at a boarding barn ??
Ask all the questions you want, no question is a stupid question on HT. We are all in this together helping each other and our equine friends !!
