No, no no! Never wish away your "little voice"!! Your life might be easier, but your soul would be damaged.
You are a beautiful person, caring and kind.
I hope the mare goes on to live a long life, now that she has experienced true caring!
I am so grateful to have never had to deal with feet like those!

poor mare

poor mare, those hooves! glad she has you. lots of live tissue in those hooves though.
she didn't sink did she? I haven't ever seen the pedal bone thru the sole.
my ottb mare, elderly, got a dex shot (she was not insulin resistent) and foundered, went from 5 degrees to 15 degrees, was resectioned, did not sink, farrier reversed shoes and we used vettec pour in pads. took a year for hooves to grow back in.
since she got the dex shot and was an easy keeper, had to go on happy hoof instead of grain and lost 300 pounds to be skinny.
her hooves didn't look like your mare's since our event happened overnight, and her hooves looked flat, and the bottoms looked like they were filled with pour in pads when she foundered. my farrier had her at 37% before she got laminitis, I wanted heels, and I think this helped prevent sinking. farrier said she couldn't be more than 37% angle. farrier also prayed for her over that year, something money couldn't buy.
good luck with the horse. glad you are trying to save her. as you know you'll have some good days, and some bad days, and weeks.....I wouldn't wish laminitis on anyone!!!

That poor mare!! Thank godness you came along and now have her!!!! Some people should NOT own animals of any kind. Please keep us updated . . . . . . . This sounds like it is going to take quite a while and I am looking forward to seeing the final result (in about a year's time). Good for you for taking the time to help this poor mare, she is a beauty and at only 7 yrs. old she has plenty of life left in her to live.

takes a year, or more

it's going to take a year or more for him to get results. realigning the pedal bone, etc. a rollercoaster ride of good days and bad days and awful days, etc.
tell me the pedal bone didn't sink?????

Poor mare! Good for you for taking her in. I had a mare like her ( only not nearly as bad ) a few years back. She never fully recovered, but is a well loved pasture pal.

I have more pics but since I am better with things that breathe and have hair on them than with things that plug in, my wife will have to tell me why I can only get some to load and not others. She seems better today, though she was so bad she has miles to go before I start patting myself on the back. Will definitely keep you updated as we go. Walked out to feed today and she walked up and put her head against me. Rubbed herself against me and breathed gently on my face. Was a better thank you than I get from most people. I think if she was a little smaller she would have crawled into my lap. My wife teases me that we're obviously in love already. Just something special about her that I can't put my finger on. Gonna take it one day at a time and I'm counting 2 good days in a row. Just wondering how long it's been since she has had 1 pain free day and if she even remembers what it's like to not have sore feet.

She will be your girl forever. I think, sometimes, they know that you're trying to help them. Poor thing.... she probably has forgotten what it's like to be pain-free. Keep us updated when you can. We're pulling for you!!!

Poor girl. Oh, I take it you have put her on pain meds before he did that? Or are her hooves so bad she cant feel it. Does the farrier have any idea how long this treatment will take. Whats her future look like? Is she just going to be a pasture pet & companion?

Nor Cal Farrier is the one who did the "operation" as well as her new owner. Most likely she will be a pasture mate if she gets better. The mare was on meds to help her stand on the first foot. The re-section itself wasn't painful as most of the tissue removed was already dead. She flinched when he poked the holes in the sensitive tissue to promote the bleeding but that was about it.

Her future is pretty iffy. At this point it's one day at a time. I am not in the habit of giving too much pain meds to laminitic horses as I have seen numerous horses re-founder form large doses of drugs. I try and keep her on softer ground and give her small doses of Bute as needed. Not sure what you mean by length of time for the treatment. It will take a year or so for the new growth to get from hairline to ground. Will probably be several weeks to months before we see any substantial improvement, if there is any. The main treatment is over and done, now we maintain and wait and pray. What she'll do if she improves depends on if and how much she improves.

So, there is a possibility that she could still have a productive life being a pasture buddy then? They think that she will recover enough to walk and be able to get around without being on meds for the rest of her life? Do they know how she got that way, or is there a guess as to what makes a horses hooves get that way? Bless you for taking care of her and giving her a chance. I feel for that dear one.

She is not on regular meds now, the occasional bute if she really needs it. Yes, she can have a productive life, I have seen some really bad ones return to light riding and breeding duties. What I'll do with her if she makes it is the farthest thing from my mind right now. Like cancer, each horse responds differently to treatment. Not sure who "they" is supposed to be. No one claims to know how she foundered. There are many things that cause horses to founder, grain, rich grass, placenta retention, foot trauma (road founder),
stress, etc, etc.....
