We try to be as helpful as possible, but keep in mind the quality of your pictures and descriptions you give will make a difference in how well we can answer those questions.

The answers given here are for educational purposes only and are by no means to be considered a diagnosis or prescription. Every horse and every foot on the horse is different. This means we cannot give a “one size fits all” answer. Thus, as always, you should consult your own farrier or veterinarian.

When taking pictures, the foot should be as clean as possible. Hosing the foot if you can, would be best. The horse should be on a clean level surface, concrete (best), a level rubber mat or a board on a level surface. Your horse should be standing as square as possible, bearing weight evenly on the foot being photographed.
Here are some samples of pictures that will be helpful:

Right front from the front. The camera is on the ground to be as level as possible.

Right front from the front. The camera should be centered and level with mid cannon.

Right front from the outside. Again the camera is on the ground and level with the foot.

Right front from the inside. The camera is on the ground and level with the foot.

Right front leg and hoof from the outside. Camera should be focused on the mid cannon.

The right front bottom. The camera needs to be as square to the foot as possible.
