Aluminum horseshoe question

I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what shoe this is...

An individual was describing a shoe to me today that is aluminum, somewhat wide, and had a groove on the hoof side of the shoe that I believe the wall sits in. It is supposed to provide support to the hoof wall.

Does anyone have ANY idea what I'm trying to describe third hand and better yet, have a photo? (even better, not only have a photo but firsthand experience with this shoe?)

Thanks in advance....

Usually the groove is on the ground side of the shoe. Aluminum is a softer metal than steel and altho quite lightweight, don't last anywhere near as long as steel shoesl Keg shoes come in various sizes and the farrier will chose whichever has the closest fit to the hoof. It could be a racing plate.

Two shoes come to mind.

One is the continuous clip shoe. It has a clip running from heel to heel. Usually made of light gauge steel and welded on the outer web. This shoe is used to totally encapsulate the foot, generally used for severe fractures of PIII.

The other is the drop sole shoe. This shoe has a set down on the sole surface so only the wall can contact the shoe. Looks like a very narrow shoe under a normal or wide shoe. Used as the name implies. Same effect can be had w/ a thick rim pad.

Both shoes have to be either hand made or made from modified keg shoes. They are usually made from steel but can be made from alu. using the same techniques.

The PLR shoes, like in AlbertaGirl's post are a modified rail type shoe and are used to allow ease of breakover in any direction.

thanks for your help everyone. I wish I had actually seen the shoe versus having someone describe what their farrier was showing them... I think I am going to just call that farrier directly and ask what he was showing her.

Does anyone have a picture of an aluminum "wide web" shoe?
