Deep Thrush advice please

My rescue has deep thrush. I am soaking him in epsom salts and warm water as well as using thrush buster. Is there something better for him than what I am doing?

The only thing that worked better then Thrush Buster for me, was a handmade concoction the vet made and sold me. I would think if you cleaned and dried the feet, applied Thrush Buster and are able to keep the feet dry, you will see improvement soon. If you don't, I'd consult with your vet and ask if they have something more powerful.

You may also want to consult a qualified farrier. A lot of the thrush I have seen has been due to contracted heels causing a deep and narrow center sulcus of the frog. Medication will help thrush caused by this but the only true cure is a shoeing protocol that helps the heels to expand back to their natural position opening the center sulcus back to a wide shallow shape.

thrush

I had my farrier at my barn doing his feet. I started the soakings for him he has been in a clean well bedded stall and turnout. I have been reading about the hows and whys of thrush. This poor little horse has a few issues being addressed his weight is poor his teeth need more work, rain rot digestive problems. He is slowly getting better and the vet has been out to see him and given him care I have never had a horse in all my years with thrush this bad and wondered if there was a better way to treat him so he feels better soon.
Thanks

The best thing I've found is get the syringes of DRY COW from a farm supply place. Use the tip of the syringe to reach right into the cleft and squeeze it out. It's the latest treament and it works like a dream. Both my farrier and my vet recommend it.

Constant soaking will keep the foot soft and keep the thrush thriving.

One of my rescues had very deep thrush that actually caused an abcess.. the farrier trimmed out around the frong to open it up to allow the frong to stay clean. and we used bleach and kept it dry..
We booted her and soaked her in Apple cider vinegar once a day as well.. she is as good as new..

I burn it out with iodide crystals, then apply thrush buster......

You can also put a wick in the cleft of the frog and heel bulbs. Then soak it with iodine, vinegar, thrush buster or what ever else you use. work well to keep the medication working.

You can try soaking in Clean Trax then using White Lightning (which is more difficult to use than ThrushBuster because you need to apply and then "bag" the hoof for the best result). But neither of these damage healthy tissue like ThrushBuster, bleach, etc.

DryCow is an antibiotic, and antibiotics work well if it is a bacterial infection. I buy neosporin and athlete's foot cream (the one with clotrimazole), mix them 50/50, put in a dosing syringe, "inject" them into thrusy areas, and then stuff with cottom balls. This has worked every time for me, even when other products have failed and it won't hurt the horse (deep trush is painful and most thrush products burn when applied to deep thrush). I get both the primary bacterial infection from the thrush and any secondary fungal infections that might be present. And if I buy generics, it's much cheaper than DryCow, Today or Tomorrow (other cattle medications that people use successfully on thrush).
