Cost of equine allergy test.

I know several of you have had your horses allergy tested - what kind of price range are we looking at?

I want to have it done on my boy, but in order to broach the subject with the holder of the purse strings...I have to have my ducks in a row!

Opie's was $280. That included the vet visit for the blood draw. Then the treatment was $200 for the first 6 months, and will be about $200 per year after that. I love Opie!

Ovey, I am not sure if this is true in your case, but I have double vials of each set because there are different allergens in the two vials. Opie has so many allergies they couldn't all go in one vial. So, he has to get one shot from each vial every time he gets his shots.

For Opie, I don't get a choice... I guess he has too many!

Since you have been doing this a while, have you had any sudden reactions, seemingly out of the blue? Opie has been doing well until this week, and when he got his shot this week, he blew up like a balloon where he got the injection. Have you had that happen? I called the vet, he is checking with the vets at the place that made the shots, and will get back to me.

My Tests were $250 for the blood test then itis $200.00 per year to maintain. the shots are alot less expensive than the Antihistamines and work much better. My horses have not had any reactions except to be itchy the first few days after the shot is given.

I am seeing some improvement, but not drastic. I don't have to give albuterol every day, only on really bad days, so he is getting better. I am hoping for more improvement by next summer, since he will have been on the shots longer then...
