Ahhh beet pulp shortage!!

I went to my feed store to get my usual beet pulp and they're out so I asked when they'd have more ... OCTOBER?!!! Supposedly the plant is out or low and will not have more until they harvest it.

I'm shaking in my skin but luckily found five bags at a local tractor supply store for *drum roll please* $14.99. Better than the two bags at the local feed store that "might be here somewhere" for $16.90.) Why when there's a shortage do people take advantage of the situation and hike up the price? They didn't pay that much for it.

Anyway .. I wanted to alert those who use the pulp to maybe stock up. I have four horses on it and couldn't afford to replace it with something else! I go through too much pulp!

Really? You're holding out on me!!!!

Do they work the same? Bear bear won't eat them unless they're dry and then he forgets to chew. I think I can only get cubes here.

The alfalfa is $11.95 a bag because we buy it by the pallet - we save $1.00 a bag.. We soak ours.. about two huge coffee cans full of already soaked cubes when I weighed it out equals one good sized flake of alfalfa..

Wow! I manage the feed sales for the coop I work for. Our beet pulp is what I consider high at $13.50 (but so is everything else), but I have had no supply problems at all. I don't sell much of it in this region.

I pay $17 a bag... good thing I only have one horse on it. It has been a bit harder to get but not much.

We're out here until October also. I was told that the people who manufacture had exported too much and now there was a shortage here. All four of mine are on beet pulp. We managed to find a place in Ocala who still had some, and we bought 3 40lb. bags. Hopefully they really will have some more in October.

My normal feed supplier was out as well, got the same story, none until October. Luckily I was able to find 2 bags at another store which will last me almost a month and then hopefully we will have more in October. Most people used to not even know what the stuff was and it was plentiful, I guess word is getting around!!

is there a big difference between adding beet pulp to your feed or buying a feed with beet pulp in it? I use a feed with beet pulp in it. I also found this report...here is a link

Argh, I went to get beet pulp last week and they were out. I paid for it and they said it should be there this week. Haven't made it to town yet, hope we aren't fixing to have a problem here.

Buying feed with beet pulp in it is a good idea but add quite a bit more $$ to the bill.

Luckily I was able to buy a few at Tractor Supply. It wasn't the typical manufacturer but I like this brand much much better and so do the critters! I will try to get the name and number off the bag. Maybe that will help some of you? I go through so much I'm tempted to buy direct!

No shortage in my area and the price is steady. I think I'll stock up just in case.

do you ad it to your grain? if so then would the cost be about the same or maybe higher?

Yep, and flax meal and stabalized rice bran. Saves me a ton of money getting feed with it already in it. Horses all look fantastic. Our TSC and feed stores have it. Its 12.00 I think at TSC, feed store is much more.

I wish our TSC carried Seminole... From what I have heard, it is one of the better feed choices out there - but for some reason, hard to come by up here..
